I keep two glass jars at my desk - one filled with M & Ms and the other filled with dry roasted peanuts.  The idea was to get people out of their offices and cubes and out into the bay area.  Also, our department head's office is right by my desk, so he can see who is standing there and initiate a conversation - you know - communications improvement sort of thing.

Before I go home, I lock the jars in one of my overhead bins, because the night shift people will "clean me out."

I ran out of peanuts and M & Ms, and had no intention of running all the way to SAMs until I had another reason to go there.  People would come by my desk and, not seeing the jars would actually walk into "MY" space and open my bins, looking for the jars!!!  :doah:

It is also apparently up to me to make sure the kitchenette has plenty of coffee.

Why is it always the Secretary (or Administrative Assistant) responsibility???? :BangHead:

Am I being wierd about this?

Been there...done that! I use to work for an Architecture Firm as an AA and I always had to make sure we had coffee and that it was made. We had a candy dish and when it would run out people would rummage around looking for more! Then they had the nerve to complain to me that we didn't have any! It is a treat not a requirement! I totally understand how you feel!

Good Question. At our office we have bird feeders in front of the windows of 5 of our dental operatories. 3 of these belong to the hygienists and 2 to the dentist. When I first started working there, we were in a smaller office with only 3 feeders in front of the hygienist's windows. I would usually get the seed and keep the feeders full and really didn't mind. We have been in our new office for over 3 years. We now have a total of 9 feeders that are emptied about every week in the summer and 2 weeks in the winter. I'm still the one filling the up. I really don't mind doing it at all. The birds are entertaining, both for myself and my patients, but I'm amazed when the others remind me the feeders are empty! I was purchasing the seed myself, but I've gotten better about putting a collection bowl out and letting the others know when it's time to get more, especially when they are going through so much.
I decided in my case,I took on the job because the others weren't doing it consistently and I considered it important to the practice. I just thought someone else would chip in. When I'm on vacation or when I've been out with surgery, they've made sure it was taken care of. I think that once a person takes on a "project" others are content to let that person do it instead of offering to do it themselves for fear of having to do the job more often than they want to. Sorta like, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I'd lock all my bins and ask if there was something you could help with?  I'd also put a "tip jar" on the desk for donations to the treat cause.
