I have noticed some weird behavior from Porky the last few days that has me wondering what's going on.  The last few days he has not seemed interested in his food.  He has always gone through periods where he doesnt eat much for a few days and then starts eating normally again, so I thought nothing of his change in eating habits.  Then today, he seemed nervous about something.

We had to walk to the in-laws to use their shower because our water is not working.  We took Porky with us because he loves to see hi hugrandma.   As soon as i stepped into the bathroom and shut the door, he started stratching on the door and screaming in terror.   I never heard screams like this from him before!!!  I could hear that my mother-in-law had picked him up and was trying to comfort him, so I hurried and finished my shower.  The whole time I could hear Porky crying and whining and kicking the door.   It broke my heart!!   I'm confused why is all of a sudden so scared and nervous without me right there.  He has NEVER been like that.   He has been following me all over the house today and cries when he can't see me.

Besides the anxiety and not eating much, he seems to be more sleepy than usual today.  I took his temperature to make sure he's not getting ill and it was normal.   i called our friend doc to come look at him.  Doc said that Porky's health seems to be just fine so he wasn't sure what is going on either.   Doc checked his blood levels and everything checked out fine, so we're kinda lost.   Porky is interested in eating what i eat, just not his own food.  I gave him some vegetables and chicken and he eagerly ate it, but hardly touched his own food.

If anyone has any idea what might be going on, please let me know!  I am really concerned about his strange behavior. His sleepiness is really worrying me, i'm hoping he's just sleepy because he hasn't been eating enough.  He is drinking and on a regualr going outside schedule.   I really dont want him to lose any weight as he is just right on the wieght, but if he loses he would become underweight quite quickly.  I am holding him and comforting him as much as I can today and it seems to be helping with his nervousness, but am at a loss at how to help him.   Even his favorite blanket is not comforting him today.    :dontknow:  I'm hoping he's better tomorrow.    Doc did say he thinks it might just be an anxiety thing that will go away by tomorrow, so we'll see.   Any helpful ideas would be great!!   Especially some ideas how to get him to eat.

I'm not surprised really if you think about all that has happened to him in the last few weeks, he was poisoned, knocked out with a concussion, had an illness along with you and your husband, had what to him was probably a scary encounter with the neighbor lady when she threw the cheesecake at you, all the construction in your house, witnessed your husband fall down the stairs, etc...any of these alone could make a doxie feel insecure, so all of them together could be making him worry what might happen next. How old is he? It's good the bloodwork came back normal!!! (That was fast! We normally have to wait a few days! I hate the waiting...). So it does sound more likely to be mental. I am curious why the Vet thought he might get over it by tomorrow, if it's been going on for a few days? Is he as nervous when you are in the room with him as he is when you leave the room? If he has never done this before and he was so extreme as to be screaming while you were in the shower (does he do this at your house?) I would be worried too...that isnt' normal behavior to come on so suddenly like that. The sleepiness and not eating would have me wondering about his concussion. Blood work alone doesn't tell you the whole story of things that might be going on. Maybe it's time to take him in for more xrays and a complete going over? Poor Porky he sure has been through a lot, I hope things will be calmer now and maybe he'll get back to his old self.

Yeah...I was thinking it was just from all the stress lately.  Porky is one year and five months old.   He had full xrays last week when they checked him after his concussion to see how well he was healing.  They all came out normal, so I dont think the sleepiness or the eating is concussion related, but i'm not entirely sure.  I think he may confused about when its time to sleep because my husband switched schedules and works nights now.   He seems to be on extra high alert during the night and wants to be awake until my husband comes home in the morning. Thats probably why he is so sleepy now that i think about it, his body is confused.   He also likes to sleep more once it starts getting colder in  the fall and winter, so maybe that's all this is???   I guess i'll just keep cuddling him and trying to keep him calm.
