Aggravating!!!

I am so frustrated with our landlord!!  He ordered some work to be done by a contracting company, but didnt bother to tell us they were coming.  And then, we find out one of the guys looks like  sex offender I saw on a website from the state patrol!  My husband was away on business and I immediately called him and told him to come home. 

On top of all that, I have the flu and with all banging and clanging wont be able to rest until they are done.  Then we have another set of guys coming in on Tuesday. At least we know that the guys coming on Tuesday are nice guys, (they are my husband's cousins.)   I guess I shouldn't complain about it since he is doing it to make our house nicer, its just that he should have called us first so I wouldn't be alone with strange men in my house. 

Ok I just got confirmation that it is the same guy!! He just told me his name!!  Am I overreacting by being angry about this?

 I would call the contractor immediately and tell him you don't want a convicted sex offender in your house.

I would call them too !!!  Is hubby on the way home?

I would call also. I wonder if the contractor has any idea? Of course, like all other criminals, he probably has rights and can't be refused a job based on his "criminal history". I do think the contractor needs to be aware of this and needs to make sure he doesn't have the guy working somewhere when a woman will be home alone. How did he end up telling you his name? If he just offered it, that would be a little too weird.

I tend to side with Teresa.  The contractor should be careful to not send the sex offender some place where there are women or children who are unprotected.  But the hard fact is, these guys have to work somewhere.  If they don't work, then people who do work and pay taxes, like you and I, will be supporting him.

Hi guys-
Well my hubby made it home about two hours after I posted the original message.  I was so glad when he got home.  I called the company this man works for and complained that they had sent him to my house when I was alone.  They apologized and said that he had been convicted in 1992 and has no criminal record since.  They also sent over a supervisor to explain the crime that man did commit and have the guy tell his side.  Which was kinda weird.  Anyway...turns out he is apparently now, a "nice" guy and is trying to overcome his past record.  SInce he is mainly working outside, we agreed to let him stay, but asked that they call before coming over next time.

I'm glad everything worked out okay. Jeri was right that he has to work somewhere. Also, there is a very good possibility that he has overcome his past and is doing fine now. If it has been 14 years with no further incident, that's a pretty good record and at least the contractor was willing to handle it in a way to make you feel safer.
