Hi! I am new to this site, but i have a question. I have had my doxie for 3 years and over the last few months he seems to have had a couple of seizures? The most recent one was yesterday. I just got homefrom work and my son was calling for me and "Max" was on the floor urinating and his hind legs were crouching and unstable and his head was kinda twitching. It was almost like he didn't have any control in his hind end. After about 5 minutes or so he was fine. Is it possible he was having a seizure or something? What should i do?
Thanks!

It sounds like a seizure to me and I have had 2 dogs who had them.
Make sure you let the vet know about them.  If it is epilepsy they frequently start about 2 years of age. Also keep a record of when and what the seizures are like and what is going on when they happen.  Flashing lights and loud noises can make them worse. If the last more than 5 min or so get ahold of your vet right away because the extended seizures or clusters of seizures where they don't come out of one fully and start another can cause damage to the brain.
They say they don't know what is going on, but Zeke would be really struggling until I put my arm on him (don't put your face by his mouth because he could accidentally bit you) and petted him and talked in a low quite voice to him.  :comfort: Then he would settle down and they seemed to stop sooner.  Don't panic, Zeke had the clusters and was on phenobarbital from 2 to 15 1/2 when he passed on.
Good luck!

Epilepsy is a fairly serious problem in dachshunds. However, seizures can be caused by all sorts of things including allergies, toxins, tumors, or other illnesses. Get to a vet, PRONTO. You need an accurate diagnosis of what's happening here. All seizures should be considered serious.
