Randy is going to pick Molly up in a couple of hours. In the end, nothing was as it was thought at first. It turned out that Molly had managed to get hold of something sharp at some point that had made a small tear in her intestine and caused a lot of bleeding. This caused blood loss and the infection. They have been able to give her some meds that will keep the intestines coating and keep the bleeding from recurring since that is an area that heals quickly. She is doing great now and eating well.
We had a weird thing happen about 10 days ago when our ceiling fan fell in the dining room in the middle of the night. We are wondering if, even with all the cleaning, Molly got a small piece of glass in her paw and managed to lick it out and swallow it and that is what caused the problem. The other possibility would be if some glass had gotten on one of her toys, but she doesn't really have any toys in that area. Needless to say, I'm going over that whole area again and again to make sure there is no trace of glass left!! I'm just glad she is better now and heading home. Schatzi is excited and can't wait! Thank you so much for all your prayers and healing doxie rays!

I guess that is better than an unknown infection (as long as the sharp object has passed through).  I'm sure Molly will return to form with the tenacity that bulldogs are known for.  Rays continuing for a full recovery.

The vet seems to think it has. No evidence of anything anywhere and no other bleeding. Tenacity is a good word for Molly. That is also a problem when bulldogs get ill. They hide pain very well and it is very hard to know when anything is bothering them. With Molly, our first thought was just that something had not agreed with her, especially since she seemed fine otherwise. On Sunday evening, even though we knew then she wasn't feeling well, she still came up on the bed once with her rope bone wanting to play. I'm just glad that same spirit can get her through a lot, too.

Teresa,

glad she is okay, hopefully on the mend, and hopefully she is building herself back up and has plenty of energy.

Molly is now about 90% back to normal. I noticed last week that she was once again giving Schatzi a "bath" and she has started her usual tug of war game with Randy. She doesn't always run to the door to bark with Schatzi, which is just fine with me, but I'm sure that will come. Randy and I have both noticed that her old "stubborness" is definitely back. The last two nights she has wanted to sleep right next to one or the other of us and not let us move. If we got up to move her over, with much growling from her, she would, as soon as we got back in bed and settled, get right back up and move to where she had been in the first place. That is the old Molly at her best!
