April

It's been a little while since I posted an update on the goatdog :goat: so I thought I better do that!

She has gotten to the point in her recovery where she wants to start running and moving around a lot.  We don't let her although we have started letting her walk around the livingroom or the backyard for a few minutes since that was OK'd by the vet.  It is well under the 10 minutes she's allowed so we aren't too concerned about her.  She sleeps in her crate most nights unless David is home then she cries at him to get her out, but she took off down the ramp the other night before he could get her.  Back into the crate she went for the rest of the night.  We don't want a hurt dachie!  She has started going potty outside when we take her out into the back yard.  It's somewhat funny since always before she'd hold it until she got to her potty box.  Go figure she's acting more "doggy" now!  :dontknow:  lol
Anyway she is doing leaps and bounds better and it's only been 3.5 weeks since she had surgery (this Friday will be 4 weeks).  She can walk well although she still swaggers around.  When she shakes out she can keep her balance and she keeps getting better about that she doesn't lean to the side so much now!  She tries to go running when we put her in the backyard and we've discovered that she can move faster than we thought so now she is either in the ex-pen or on a leash.  (At first she couldn't go very fast so a few steps and we'd catch her.)  She is really wanting to go running with David since that is their normal thing when it gets warm.  For now we have to concentrate on walking!

Glad to hear she continues to be on the mend!  Keep it up Cajsa!

Be diligent, April.  Just when you think you know how they are going to respond in a given situation is when they get more power back and scare you to death doing something fearless.

Tell me about it!  The way we found out she wanted to go running as is her normal routine, she just took off around the side of the house (the yard is not fenced - yet).  She stumbled after about 7-8 feet and David caught her so she promptly went into the ex-pen to lay in the sun!  Scared us both!  She wasn't running "normally" but was hop stepping but she sure was booking it as fast as she could.

I'm trying to do the best I can for her.  She is doing so much and all I can say is that it's her "spicy" dachsie personality!  She's a firecracker that's for sure.

I've nopt had any luck finding Glucosamine and chondroiten in a form she will take.  All I can find here has been in tablets and she will not take them even crushed up in yogurt or nut butter.  Any suggestions on getting it into her?

Sounds like she is bouncing back nicely.  Don't know what to tell you about getting her to take a glu-chron. pill.  Mine have always taken crushed pills quite well when mixed with cottage cheese.

It sounds like her recovery is going VERY well. The hardest part is keeping them from hurting themselves, but it's also the best part - they feel so good, they don't know their limits.

April-  We use treats by DOGSWELL. One of the kinds has gluc and condroitin, don't know about the levels.  Here's the website:

So glad your baby girl is progressing so well!

She is really wanting to play but we aren't letting her.  Today makes four weeks since she went down.  It really doesn't seem like it's been so long/short a time.  Sometimes it's like yesterday and othertimes it's like it's been forever ago.  The good thing is that she's getting better and FEELING better.

Solid Gold makes a liquid form that is mixed into moist or wet food.  I add it green beans and Sea Meal (kelp) and Clifford slurps it right up.  Another possibility is Missing Link Plus.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.
