My uncle had a double lung transplant last night.  He was lucky and only spent 5 months on the waiting list.  The part that worries me is, first, only one doctor in Tampa would even consider doing the transplant.  Second, his lung problems were caused by Lupus.  He has suffered from many of the "side effects" of this disease.  My concern is, if the disease damaged his lungs, whats to say that it won't attack these new lungs.  My uncle is only 57 years old and has had a very rough last 3 years because of the lupus.  Please send lots of rays that he is able to recover from this surgery and go on to live a decent life.

Also, please send rays to the family who unselfishly gave up a part of their family member so that others could live.  A family is mourning out there, and I wish I could tell them thank you for thinking of others in their time of saddness.

We'll be thinking of your uncle and wishing him well.  We'll also pray for the generous family that is grieving their loss.

Rays and prayers on the way for your uncle.  Please keep us posted on his progress and let him know we are thinking of him.

Anytime I hear of a transplant, I feel a sense of sadness and a sense of WOW at the same time.  So sad that a family has to grieve to help another family rejoice, and then it hits me how the transplant process is such awesome thing - truly amazing.   I will keep this family who helped your uncle, in my prayers too.

Hi Julie....this issue is near and dear to my heart.  My brother died of an undiagnosed tumor on his brain stem which bled out and caused a stroke.  This was four years ago.  He was a wonderful, amazing healthy forty year old man.  As a family, we had his organs donated.  Somewhere out there are people who are alive today with my brothers heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, eyes, and skin.
Here is a link which will take you to my brother Bob's Quilt Square which is part of the New York Organ Donors Quilt.

I will be praying for your uncle along with the donor family.  Please feel free to contact me should you need to talk.
