Curious about a peeing problem
« on: August 02, 2013, 11:10:19 PM »
My dog has always had a habit of what we call at my house 'angry peeing' when I'm going to be leaving him for the day to go to work. The amount of pee has always seemed to be just enough to make a mark .

However, today as I was getting ready he, what I thought, 'angry peed' a very large amount onto my bed. He also peed a large amount again a few minutes later, in a spot near my bed.
cleaning the mess, I left for work, when I got home there was a large pee puddle in my kitchen ( a place he has never peed in the 6 years I have had him).

Once home, and with all the messes cleaned up, he has continued to have to be let out to pee about once or twice an hour. Something that he has never needed to do before. Each time is a good size puddle. He also had a fourth pee accident in the kitchen.

I understand that age can be a big factor, the 8th of August will be his 15 birthday. However, up until today I haven't noticed him have to make so many bathroom trips to urinate.

I tried looking up my first thought causes: Bladder infection, diabetes, bladder cancer. All of which list symptoms He is not showing. He doesn't seem to be in any pain to pee.

My question is, is there other health issue that dachshunds can get that cause frequent urination? Or is it just simply a case of old age?

The sudden onset of this is worrying. If it were an age thing it probably would have happened more gradually. A visit to the vet will bring peace of mind.

Please take your fellow to the vet there is only one way to test for a UTI   a lab test. Also as males get older they can have prostate problems  just like men do he needs to be seen by a vet to rule out a medical problem. Dogs do not pee in anger that is a human emotion not a dog emotion dogs do not think the same as humans also just might be old age. The last two years of my 14 & 1/2 year old Papillon she wore diapers which is a thought, I did not have a problem changing her used baby wipes and cloth diapers with pads in them cheaper than dog diapers. She had dog Alzheimer's which some dogs get when old. Good Luck at the vets, please keep use posted we care.
