I learned this method of house breaking pups from a dog show person about 30 years ago 1st use about a 6 ft leash, rope or what ever take pup/dog out every 2 hours at least ,after naps, playing morning, nights pick command go potty, hurry up or what ever words you want to use, use same words each time you take the pup/dog out.Stand in the potty area you have picked just stand there they can walk around you using the 6 ft.leash if you just turn hem loose in a yard you will not know if the go or not it is your job to to with them and let them know they did right. You have to go with them each time and always PRAISE them everytime the pee or poo,act like it is the greatest thing you ever saw( of course do not scare them be up beat & positive with them. You can also hang a bell on the door you will be using to go outside you ring the bell each time you take them out say want to go potty or your words you picked out. One day the pup/dog will ring the bell on its own to little you know they want to go out,may take a few weeks or a few months depends on the pup/dog age how hard you work with them remember they are baby's so it does take awhile to teach them.OK if they do not go put them in their crate wait 30 minutes to an hour take them out again. Also do not let them have the run of the house keep them leashed to you or crated so they cannot go off on their own and go potty in the house.Of course they may have accidents not their fault sorry it is your fault talk them out. If accidents clean with a pet enzyme product a black light works well also.Sorry but will tell you straight yo Dachshunds are harder to house break then most breeds little dogs are harder than your bigger dogs.Think bladder size has allot to do with it.Hang in there you can do this just think when it is raining, snowing, icy, late at night you can go tell you dog your magic words and they will go on command it is wonderful other people that do not train this way will think you are brilliant, This works, takes a little more time but well worth it also if you use the same area the dog will usually go to that area when grown.Good Luck with your new baby.
