I have a friend who is beside herself, she is not sure what to do...Here's a long story cut short..My friend had a llapso apso who is 2 1/2 yrs old, well she had a litter of pups and all was good, a few months later Malitia was lathargic so they took her immediately to the vet where she was diagnosed with a blood disorder, forget the name, anyways they gave Malitia a few blood transfusions and antibiotics, this went on for a few weeks, finally the Vet whom they have been going to for 10 yrs and were neighbors with him for a few of those years said that he thought it was best if they put her down because she wasn't getting any better, so they signed to have her put down and were to upset to be in the room with her, and they left, well a few days later Gina stopped by the Vets office and asked for Malitia's collar and tags, well the receptionist said with a smile "Come back with me", there was Malitia alive and feeling better, the vet spayed her and low and behold she was feeling better, so Gina was thrilled, and asked when she could come home, they said in a few days, so Gina went back the next day to visit, and the receptionist said "I can lose my job if I tell you this but the vet sold your dog to someone else", my friends are furious, and the Vet has put a restraining order on them , what do they do? I know they are contacting a lawyer, but what else can they do, I can't believe that a Vet would do this and it has me thinking, how many times has he done this????

What the @#$%&!!!!!!!!  I would have that vet's @$$ in a sling!!!  I'm glad your friend contacted a lawyer.  Something else that gets the word out is a Letter To The Editor of her local newspaper.  She should tell her story.
Telling clients their dog has to be put down so he can turn around and sell him or her??????  That is just plain evil.  Someone like that should have their license taken away.  Let us know what happens.

OMG - that makes me sick at my stomach.  Have her contact the newspaper and the tv stations right away.  Get the story out there - that is so not right.  Does she know anyone else that goes to him?  Geez - my blood is boiling - I can't believe someone would do that.  Did she go to the police?  Not sure what they could charge him with - but at least she could get a complaint on the record.

The more I think about it - I would definatly go to the police.  I would think that they could charge him with theft.  Did she sign anything to agree to her being put to sleep?  Have her be sure to get the receptionists name, so she can be called to testify.  I can't imagine what your friend is going through.

I would RUN as quickly as possible to the police!  That is truely one of the worst things I have EVER heard.  It seems to me that they will be dealing with several things.  The malpractice first of all.  Clearly the dog did not need to be put to sleep.  Theft....this is pretty clear cut.  I'm sure there are other issues here as well that I can't think of right now because I am to pissed off right now.  Hopefully this creep can be stopped before this happens to anyone else but your right....how many others has this happened to.

Oh MY GOD!!!!  What a horrible thing for someone to do....  I agree with Patty, have her call the local paper and maybe even a news station.  I would surely think they would be interested in telling that story!!  I am sending rays to your friend in hopes this all works out to her benefit!!!!

I would contact an attorney and depending on the advice received, I would contact the police, the press, AND the agency that licenses veterinarians in your state

Oh my god... that is absolutely terrible.... It makes me sick to think this actually happens! She needs to go to a good lawyer on this... something really needs to be done, not only for your friend, but like you said how many times has he actually done this? Not to mention how many times will he do this in the future? That's absolutely horrendous... keep us posted! I want to see this vet behind bars.

It sounds to me like the vet had some kind of plan from the beginning.  I don't mean to sound cynical, but, really. If a vet says your dog needs to be put down..... why would he then SPAY her?  Does it seem to anyone else that there may have been something not quite right in the blood transfusions?  If so,  where is the nearest PETA office?

Police and Attorney in that order. I know this person trusted this vet but after what I went through with Timmy I wish I had gotten a second opinion. I would also not have left my dog alone when it was put down.

Ummm perhaps the vet knew she had a pyometria and just needed spayed to get well again. Many unspayed females can be not quite right for years, then get deathly ill and once they are spayed and get rid of the infection, they actually have a complete turn around.
This DOES happen, it happened to my Aunt probably 25-30 years ago with her Standard Poodle. She took it to the vet, the vet said it needed euthanized, she went to pick up the body to bury it herself and they said they misunderstood her and had sent it for burial. Well several years later this big black poodle ran up to her on the street. She said his name and he went crazy with wags. The new owners quickly took the dog off and she never saw him again. It broke her heart I am saddened for your friend's loss and I hope she can prosecute this vet for doing what he did.

PS: You better watch being buddies with PETA, their ultimate goal is for pets to have total freedom, this means that owners do not own their dogs, cannot contain their dogs and basically want them all running free and wild. Additionally, if there wasn't breeders out there breeding dachshunds, eventually there wouldn't be any dachshunds to be had or loved. While I realize there is a HUGE problem with over population and puppy mills, there are those good breeders who care about the breed and vow to keep the breed just as it was meant to be according to the AKC Standard. If PETA has their way, NO ONE will be breeding dogs. PETA has an agenda that is actually quite morbid. They will burn down a laboratory just because they have rats for testing, forgetting that they are burning the rats with the building. They will also go to dog shows and let dogs out of their crates, several have been ran over. In the past 6 months, I read a news article where PETA was picking dogs up from local vets in areas that did not have humane societies or animal shelters. they were claiming to be finding these dogs "Loving Homes". Several area businesses kept finding dead animals in their dumpsters and reported it to the police, oddly the dogs were dumped on the night of the day that Peta had picked dogs up from local vets. This went on for a month and the police finally decided to monitor the dumpsters on the night of the week that the animals were being dumped. They watched a Van pull up and dump bags into the dumpster, they pulled the van over and there was two people in the van, one driving the other euthanizing the dogs/cats and placing them in trash bags. The police ran a check on the Van and the owner was PETA. They claimed that the animals needed to be euthanzied and they were qualified to "Humanely" do it. They was cited for illegal dumping of carcusses. The local vets had identified the animals that had previously been dumped as animals they had turned over to PETA.
Here is the article:

Just do a search titled "PETA Kills" and see all the articles that come up, from all over the U.S. It is sickening!

It sounds like conversion, which usually happens with cars...and it's against the law.  I would go to the police and I would also go to the state veterinary board.   I'll bet somewhere on that document they signed off on they gave ownership of the dog to the vet.   I guess your friends could claim the document was signed under duress.   It's about the most unethical thing I heard.

News Media, police, and attorney in that order.  If there's a lesson to be learned, get a second opinion before making the decision to put to sleep, and, no matter how much it may hurt, I plan to be with Ozzy when the time comes.
