Loki surgery update ya gotta read this

Right after meleogram and possible CAT scan, right into surgery. The folks at Metropalition ER could not have been nicer, more patient or more professional. Outlook is very good. And yes, the surgerical entry is through the throat.

So I got the little booger out of her crate and into the shady grass this morning, DH and I switched off watching her while we filled the gas tank, packed a lunch, gathered towels and blankies, etc. Then I says to her. "Ok, kid, we're gonna goferaride and you're gonna meet some new best friends and maybe have a sleep over. Hu-mom and dad will come getcha soon and we love you." All dawg heard was: "GOFERARIDE!?!?!?!" and didn't she get up and start walking to the car. :idiot: The little pooper had to be restrained from going too far. She did well in the car, and when we left her was wagging her tail. Gave her kisses.

ya'll know the post op drill. She will be unBEARABLE for the next six weeks, wanting to give some whoopass to a ground hog. (oh, and Mrs. Ground hog has TWO babies so the total population in our little 1/2 acre is now FOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!. Sumbuddy goin' foraride soon...)

All in all feel very confident but exhausted. Happy that I have an understanding boss and a pile of personal and vacation days, though. Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers you guys are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5:30 surgeon callls and reports surgery is finished. Loki had a ruptered disc between 3rd & 4th, but procedure went well and prognosis looks good. We are welcome to call nursing staff toupdate later in the evening.
6:10 Doctor calls back, my heart sinks, and in her beautiful English accent she says: "I have to tell you that your little dog is a mahhhhh-vel. She is standing up in her crate wagging her tail." So "give that dawg a steak!" and we both laugh. "Other than the staples in her neck and the bad haircut she's right as rain." Gooooooooooooooo LOKI! :thumb:

Yippie, that she is gonna get fixed up.....now remember crate rest involves a couple of stiff drinks for the hooparent :thumb: (a little Sangria is just the ticket

) Praying Loki has a quick recovery after surgery......sounds like she is in good hands.

hugs and stiff drink to you's. Its good to have an understanding boss, mine was great with Amy, I went back when we could leave her and Wendy told me to go home and have a few days for myself.
Loki will be in our thoughts throughout the day.

She is one tough, determined little girl! I can't believe she still got excited at the thought of a goforride!!!! You guys are in for quite an interesting time with her recovery!

So, after all this time, she had a disc problem?!!!! That's good news in that it was something they could fix - not a disease process like you thought. I'm sooo glad to hear she's doing so good post surgery! Good girl, Loki!

That is great news. It seems like someone on here said that cervical discs are easier to deal with than lumbar ones. It sounds like that is the case with Loki for sure (and of course Loki is an awesome doxie!). Get some rest so you will be ready for her when she comes home!

Oh Les - it sounds very encouraging for our Loki !!! Sending rays to her in full force to continue the good recovery and to mommy and daddy who I am sure, are exhausted. Glad to hear Loki is on the mend and wagging her tail must feel better already Valium for everyone for the next 6 weeks or Valium for the humans and Rescue Remedy for Loki to chill her out for the crate time.Rays & Hugs to all hope the 6 weeks will fly by.

Wow, that's impressive. We've witnessed a lot of dachsies having that same surgery on this board, and I honestly can't recall anything like that ever happening.

When we picked her up she said howdy to the receptionist, had to be restrained from hopping in the car herself and after a few minutes on mom's lap with a comfy pillow was out cold.

Later she et her supper and we got her out to pee (carrot bribery) and while unsteady on her feet, and lacking confidence, she zipped up the ramp and back into her crate.

A note on canine survival behavior. On Thursday when she was nearly dead, although she laid in the grass for an hour, she would not pee. I guess her little instinct brain was telling her to be invisible to possible predators. I think the same thing was happening with the Adrenalin rush she had after surgery. She figured pack leader is not here, so I have to be alert and just ever so friendly to these strange humans. If I am extra extra cute they will feed me.

Loki, dear heart! I just got home from a 3 day trip and am now just catching up. Sounds like you've had a grand adventure whilst I was away. SOOOOO glad that your surgery went well and that you're feeling bettah.
