Post by: gail1 on February 06, 2014, 02:19:50 PM
My name is Gail and my daushund is Mollie. she got hurt last week and her back is messed up . now she is paralized. she cannot walk and her back legs will never have feelings again. she will never have control again with her bowels and tee tee. I am just heart sick and doing as my vet says for now. I am considering buying a miniture wheelchair. my problem is with no control she tee tee and poop all over the house if I take her out of her play pen so I spend all day cleaning her up. I need some clues that will make it easier for us as I am 70 and bending over is so hard on me. mollie weights 12  pounds and is 4 yrs old.. she seems to be better each day but dragging her hind legs. I think the mini wheel chair will help her regain some strength. any thing yall can help me with  things to make it easier for her. can't stop her dierre.. :cussing:  poor baby

Hi so sorry to hear about Mollie you can go to      Dogerslist.com   they have all kinds of information that may help you. At 70 most likely on a fixed income you can buy two cloth diapers do not buy the dog pads that go in them you can buy human pads that will fit. You may have to try a few different kinds until you get the size that works best. Then if you have a Dollar type store you can get the Aloe Vera type diaper wipes very inexpensive.  Ask your vet if expressing the bladder and bowl my help Mollie go at a certain time may fed her twice a day at certain times so she will go potty at certain times. One person that had several paralyzed Dachshunds he is no long on the Wiener Writings he talked of putting the Dachshunds in a play pen at night with pads down so they would not have to wear diapers 24/7 which could cause skin break downs, which you really have to watch out for. The wheelchair for her seems like a excellent idea Rays & Hugs to you both I hope more people will chime in but most do not come her any more they use facebook which I do not trust so I come and check to see if anyone comes here about every other day or so this use to be a great place to come so many people here. Hi Gail,

I'm sorry to hear about Mollie.  My first dachshund blew out a lumbar disc when he was almost 6.  Fortunately he was able to get around after surgery.  I have seen several dachshunds on wheels at picnic fund raisers.  They scoot all over like they were born to roll.  If you get one of these make sure Mollie's toes don't drag on the ground.
