Title: Fractured tooth
Post by: Barry on December 29, 2013, 06:27:42 AM
MY 8 year old Missy has a fractured tooth. It doesn't seem to bother her, but the vet says it should be removed because it can lead to an infection.  It probably came from a nylabone she chews occasionally and the vet says I should give her a soft nylabone.  Has anyone gone through this with their doxies and do they chew the hard nylabones?

My Simon had a fractured tooth and it did get infected.Antibiotics took care of that.

At the time he was playing with a Westpaws Hurley which is the shape of a dumb-bell and would carry it all the way in the back of his mouth. This is what more than likely caused the fractured tooth. He now plays with a Jive which is ball shaped...you can see it in my avatar pic of Simon.

Oliver did one  of his back teeth, and yes we got it out, think how it would feel yourself. We stopped nylabones as they were given a bad wrap here.

As they are now seniors...............not much. amy has had pancreatitis hence no bones, Oliver gets raw small lamb bones ...meat gone we take the bone as we have had to do the himmlech manuvour to many times on him. They used to use the rope bones....now toof cleaning and Amy is on borrowed time with a bladder tumour.
Plus there is stuff you put in the water.

thanks.  i brush my Missy's teeth every other day and they look pretty good.  She doesn't chew as much anymore, but i guess she chewed one too many times when the fracture happened.
