I have diabetes this makes the 3rd or 4th time Patches woke me up Patches usually sleeps as long as I do we usually sleep late 10:00am Patches growl talks when she wants to go outside. I was sick Sunday temperature,vomiting, headache went to bed about 10:30pm Patches woke me up about 8:00am growling flat out growling no growl talk at all plain flat out growling she did this for about 8-10 minutes. I finely got up took her outside noticed i was not walking too well Blood Sugar was 49 they say if it is under 70 you are to do low blood sugar protocol. I keep real coke in the refrigerator for low blood sugar keeps longer than orange juice or some of the other stuff since it is a liquid it works fast too. I think Patches is an a Alert dog but have no schooling for it. Papbouv
It's entirely possible that he can smell the difference in your body chemistry. Having associated low blood sugar with bad things (Mommy not feeling well), it is in Patches best interest to bring that to your attention whenever possible.
I know of someone in Ill that has a Bouvier thats about a year old she is the nurse of the house she alerts to the mom & son s low blood sugars found out she gets a little piece of hot dog for alerting so I'm a bad mom guess I better start giving Patches a treat. Papbouv
Sounds like she is sensing things wrong with you. Very good job, Patches!! Porky is similar, he won't leave our side when one of us is sick. He follows me or my husband all over the house even if we have a simple cold.
