Title: Bonnie and Sandi - We are not doing so hot
Post by: BonniesMom on February 08, 2013, 05:03:50 PM
First, the BonBon.  Where she got her toenail amputated is just doing awful.  Infection into the bone.  She will probably have to have the toe amputated.  We are giving mega doses of antibiotic and soaking it in the vet's solution and keeping it covered and Bonnie inner tubed.  I don't know what we're going to do at night.  She's a sly wiener dog and can sometimes get around the tube.  I don't have the cone (lamp shade) type of cone and may not be able to get one 'til Monday.  I'm scared about wrapping the wound that I would do it right.

Now Sandi.  I was very ill last week and this week, and have found that now I have an extreme case of Sciatica or at least that's what the Dr. thinks.  I seriously can not lift my left leg.  Found a three prong cane at Goodwill.  It is a great help so that I don't tumble over.  Getting up from sitting is a HUGE effort.  Also have tendonitis or bursitis in my left shoulder.  I cannot use that arm at all.  Typing is fine because it's not in the fingers or wrist.  Primary doc, who said I have Sciatica, wants me to visit an Orthopedist.  Will be getting xrays next week.  I have extended permission for medical necessity to miss another week of work.  If anyone has had these ailments, can you advise in what worked for you?  I'm thinking of going to my Chiropractor for the Sciatica but it's soooo bad right now that I'm opting for the muscle relaxers and pain pills.

Needless to say, this is a real bummer and I'm at my wits end as to what to do.  FORTUNATELY I had 2 dear friends help me out today.  One to take ME to MY doc.  Had to call for a wheelchair.  And my other doggy friend took Bonnie to the vet.

It has been a ruff time here in our household.

Who exactly needs the cone mum or Bon...................
Sandi as painful as it sounds can you hang on something like the doorframe as sometimes it staightens the muscle and it releases the nerve. I found bowen helped in both I had tennis elbow and I get sciatica off and on.
Hard to do but relax.  Same for bonnie.
Sending Rays to you both

Old hand at sciatica try an ice pack seems to work better than heat sometimes. Ask your doctor for a MRI right away so they can find out what is going on with your back also it may not be sciatica. It may be your sacroiliac joint also which can be very pain full too.
I had a Total Left Knee August 2004    10 day later had a herniated disk which no one believed me finely 3 months later they did a MRI found a herniated disk,2 bulging disks.spinal steno sis, dergentive disk disease. Had the shots 2 did not seem to work in 2005 now  in 2012 - 2013 had 2 shots in my sacroiliac joint it finely seemed to help some but you can only have 3 shots a year. No not totally pain free but better than it was now also have new pain in both hands so looks like I cannot get away from pain. good luck at your doctors Rays and a hug too to you feel better soon.

Sandy,  15 yrs ago my doc suggested I try borage oil along with alpha lipoic acid for the bursitis in my shoulder.  Within a month it was gone and has only returned if I stop.  I used to be able to get the borage at generic stores but know can only find it at health food stores.

Rays coming that the hitches in your git-a-longs vamoose.

Sending lots of prayers your way!! I hope you both feel better soon.  One idea that can help both of you is to use a little apple cider vinegar every day.  It helps with infection and inflammation in the body. Make sure it is the raw, unfiltered kind ( I use Bragg).  It has helped with our allergies and Porky's back pain.  Dosage for humans  is 2TBSP 3 times a day mixed in some oj with a little honey (so you don't gag from the taste. LOL!)  Then for puppers, I give Porky 1/2 tsp. in the morning and night and just pour it on his food.   He is 11 pounds so if your dog is smaller you might try 1/4 tsp.  As long as you aren't exceeding 1 tsp a day for doxies, you should be fine.  Definitely check with your vet and doctors to make sure its okay to try first.  Some medications can interact badly with a.c.v.

Oh thank you for the steaks, Parker.  I didn't wake up until 10 o'clock today for my breffast.  Unheard of for me.  I think mommy and papa slipped me a mickey (anti biotic pill to fight infection.)  Papa just soaked my foot and I went potty and now I'm back in the cone zone.

Lub Bonnie Bon Bon

Sandi's progress report.  I'm sportin' a new set of wheels.  My friend had a walker.  The 4 prong cane was nice but this is Cadillac!  Amorette, I will certainly look into the raw vinegar thing.  I've heard good things.  I have felt a little more hopeful today.  I even shuffled to the kitchen today and made coffee.  Did some bacon in the microwave....I always do it that way... and cooked some eggs.  Mark just handed me my ingredients while I stood at the stove.  If I can keep up with the pain meds AND bring my walker to work, I might be able to go back Monday after next.....I hope.  The shoulder is getting better I think.  Range of motion is about triple of what I did have. I can lift my arm equal to my shoulder now.

Bonnie's wound seems to be scabbing over nicely.  She does not tolerate a wrapping on it at all so we are just do soaking, coning and pilling twice a day.  The pills kind of knock her out but it seems to be a healing sleep.  I'm going to talk to my vet come Wed and cancel the surgery for now.....if it still looks good.  For one thing, it's expensive and for another.....more important right now....I don't think I would be capable of caring for a post surgery patient right now.  Hopefully the antibiotic will continue to work but know this, Bonnie can expect to be in the cone for a long long time to make sure things are healed up.

She rolled over for belly rubs today but wasn't pleased with zerberts (belly blows) so belly rubs only until she feels better.  She actually growled which she never does to us.  Poor doglet is not feeling well.

Thank you for your rays.    :)

I am glad you are starting to feel a little better and more hopeful. Could Bonnie not want belly rubs due to a sore belly from the antibiotics? I was just wondering if they were bothering her gut any? If so, you could let her have some yogurt to help combat it,
Schatzi says she will come keep her company, it is too noisy here for her to get her beauty sleep and guarding the house when these guys are working and banging on the walls is exhausting. She thinks she needs a vacation!

So sorry, Sandi. I responded to you on FB - not sure if you saw it. Ron went to a chiro with sciatica - helped him get back to normal. He wasn't as bad as you sound, though. Go to one and see what he/she thinks. I would ask local friends who they recommend.

Poor Bonnie. I hope the vet is able to save her toe.
