I am new here and am looking for info for our daughter-in-law. She has a 6 year old femal Doxie named Velvet. This baby is the only one left of her litter. The lady that she came from says thay all have died of different stuff. Velvet now has a back problem but it is not the disk. We had one with the disk problem and this problem is a little different. She is still moving but her mom says she has no feeling in her back legs. He tails still wags but she will poop while she is walking and sometimes her legs go out from under her. The vet took x rays and found no structural problems so he thinks it may be nerve problems or maybe a tumor. thay can not afford the MRI to find out what is going on. She is on steroids and antinflammitroy meds. What would be the advice anyone that has been to the point with their baby can tell her to do. Thay live in Montana and we live in Idaho so only can get what is going on over the phone. Thanks for any help. GALE
Not all disk problems will show up on an X-ray. My Roscoe had a bad ruptured disk, but they had to do a myelogram to see the problem. X-rays were about $230, and the Myelogram was about $281.
I would encourage them to seek out the help of a specialist. Neurological problems can be really tricky. Vet schools are often good places to be referred to see a specialist.
Someone on DODGER's List may also have more helpful information. They really helped me as we have dealt with Roscoe's IVDD. http://www.dodgerslist.com
Hope your grand-pup gets the help they need and makes a full recovery!

Gale,
They *must* find a way to get this diagnosed correctly. They need to go to a veterinary neurologist if they can ASAP and get a diagnosis. This could really be any number of things--INCLUDING a disk problem, since they do not *always* show up in an xray. It could also be a tumor, meningitis, some sort of tick disease...
It *does* worry me very much that the other pups in the litter are all dead. Did the breeder say what they all died from?
