Title: Brekke is puny
Post by: Brekkesmom on January 27, 2013, 12:40:10 PM
Hi, everyone.  Once again she is not herself.  Friday, she did her Greta Garbo imitation, "I vant to be alone", and dinnertime rolled around and she wouldn't eat.  She had had treats as the others during the day, and did her business as usual.  Yesterday morning, everything was pretty normal, but she didn't want the usual treat as we came in at about 7 a.m.  She lay on the rug in my bathroom, so I put her water dish there, and gave her about 20 pieces of her kibble.  She ate them, so I did that twice more.  She did her normal business before I left for my aunt's.  When I got home. normal business again, but she still didn't want her dinner.  She slept in my bathroom on the rug, and I put a puppy pad in there, just in case.  She seemed to sleep all right, and this morning, went out at 7 a.m. with the others, and got results.  She did actually come to the garage door with the others when I got home from church, and she ate a little more dry kibble a bit ago, but she just seems puny.  I am keeping an eye on her, but we'd appreciate any rays you can spare.  Thanks!

and they are working!  She ate fairly well, at a normal time when her sibs ate, even though I held her bowl up and at an angle, and she has been lying here in the computer room since then.  Maybe she was having a tummy upset that has now worked its way through her system.  We are thankful for the rays - they always seem to do the trick.

She has her moments, but today, she has been close by us.  She went outside about 20 minutes after the other three this morning, and had a nice bowel movement - I was beginning to think maybe anal sacs were bothering her, but no symptoms of that.  She has wanted treats with the others today, and I decided to put the pure pumpkin on everyone's dinner tonight.  Everyone ate with relish, and she is more alert this evening - and with us, than I have seen since Thursday night.  :thumb:

thanks, keep 'em coming!  She felt really good yesterday - wanting belly rubs, harassing the brothers, eating normally and with the others, but today - no treats, still hasn't eaten her dinner, and did come into the living room while I was eating and watching the news.  Now she is back in her open crate (think cave - no door is on it) and softly snoring.  Do you suppose she has put herself on a diet?  I gave her a shower Tuesday morning, and she really enjoyed the nail trimming, the ear cleaning, the combout, and her blow-dry - it takes almost an hour.  If she didn't have the good days, I'd really be in a panic...

I think I can relate to Brekke with the good days and bad days.  Some days I am worthless to do anything.  Others, I'm can get up to turtle speed.

Is she running a temp?  Maybe a check up is in order?  At any rate, the next time she presents her belly, give her a nice one from me.  Feel better wee one!

Delia, the only thing new has been Nutro's little triangular banana treats, but those were new 3 months ago - we pretty much stick to same old, same old.  Solid Gold kibble has been our standard for so many years, that Brekke has never known anything but that,  The canned food - only about a teaspoon on kibble at night, has been the same for years - we use Solid Gold, Merricks, or Purina's Prime Cuts. and never had any issues but "starving dachsies" before.
Sandi, she had a checkup and bloodwork done in September when all but Bastian were in the hospital, and she saw the vet in Novermber for her annual physical - all was good except she was a bit overweight - we'll be kind and say it was an extra couple of pounds, which have since come off.
