I sure hope so. I've been in contact with a foster Mom in Central MI. While she is the "official" foster, a friend of hers has been caring for Hunter (great name, eh?) along with her own 2 small dogs due to his attempts to domineer Mom's large dogs she rescues. The official mom seems to be rooting for me but the caregiver is kinda torn about letting him go (I couldn't foster for the reason). Hunter is a 2 yr old chocolate dapple weighing in at 17 lbs. He was an owner surrender due to their lease mandating only a single animal and Hunter made animal #2. With some luck, my dad and I will make the 600 mile round trip to bring home a new best friend.
All of us in Greenacres have our fingers, toes and paws crossed for you that Hunter will become your new best friend! And, that your Dad and you will be making the trip soon!
Wooohoooo! We are rootin and baroooooin'.....I'm doing the rootin' and Bonnie the latter.....hoping that the dogapult's aim is true. Do keep us informed. Hunter.....LOVE that name. I wonder what kind of varmints he'll hunt for you. :hello2: :hello2:
If you need a local Michiganian for a reference let me know.
The actual Foster Mom is the one that knows if that particular dog is suitable for your home. See if you can get her phone number and speak to her directly.
Woohoo! Dogapult - chocolate/tan dapple/Hunter - yes, that all sounds good - and good luck!

WOOT - just saw this !!! I am SOOOO rooting for Hunter.... he couldn't land a better dad !!!! Please keep us posted !!!! Awesome, Mike, totally Pawsome !!!!
Thank you Marcia and Darcia, that is very kind of you. The foster mother has already told me she thinks Hunter and I would be a perfect match. Her friend has 1st dibs (4 legs & a tail are 9/10's of the law?).
And thanks to everyone for the support.
Still rootin' for you and Hunter! He would have so many fun adventures with you.
The Dog-Apult ray has been repositioned towards you with a direct aim to your house! We will keep those rays coming your way that Hunter will soon be living with you!

Yep, Fosters always have 1st dib, their love, care, health care, grooming and training for the dog....
I hate to loose foster parents like that, they really have to remember that we foster to save their life, not to keep them.
Keep looking if this one doesn't work out, adoption is always the right thing to do.
Good luck, Mike. Hunter couldn't find a better dad.
Don't care the colour size or sex................you need a wee one and WE down under are hopen for the best.................
Da gang and mum
We are keeping pawsies crossed that the dachsiepult hits you straight on. Hunter could never have a better Dad than you. Hope he is with you soon and gets to share all his adventures with us all here.
Let us know when we can uncross the pawsies.

BOL - this is our guilt look..... or our nanner nanner..... Mikie is the one l@@k.......

Today I got my answer...
My friend and her husband have grown very attached to Hunter -- it isn't hard! However, he is just not making peace with the other doxie -- he is fine with their shih tzu female, but the older male doxie is very humbled by him and Hunter is young and active. After reading that he will be yours and not have to share an environment with another dog, they know I place my foster's "life" first. have made the difficult decision to waive the adopt. If you are still interested in meeting and trying him out I can forward you a pre-adopt and we can go from there.
Well, what do you think my answer was????? We will still need to go through the ropes to make sure all parties are good to go but meet Hunter.
I like Hunter. He looks like a bundle of energy, and a little bit naughty.
Love him.
All I can say is.......LOVE......LOVE......LOVE! A very handsome boy and love his pose!
SQUEEEEEEEEEE ! He is adorable !!!!! Can't wait to see how a meet up goes !!! You had mentioned a road trip with your dad...how far away is he?

Google maps says 290 miles and 4 hours drive time. At this time of year I won't take my dad with me through NW Indiana/SW Michigan. That is an extreme snow zone and he is weakened from chemo treatments. If we were to go off the road he wouldn't be able to walk anywhere. I would still use his mini van so I can take the kennel with me and maybe leave from work on Friday night and stay over just across the MI border from IN. That would cut my Saturday drive time in half. But can't make firm plans until my formal application is approved.
That's a damn fine looking dog.
And get ready, in case you forgot, puppies can be a hand full!!!
a blanket and a hug-a-dog harness are good things to have when you travel with a new dog.
Barb, you took the word right out of my mouth. SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
What a gorgeous young hunk!
He is absolutely gorgeous and you will make a wonderfully handsome couple. He could not have a more loving and experienced Daddy and we are sure you will fit together well and quickly.
Wishing you the smoothest and easiest transition and travel ever.
Bet he will be helping you bake shortbread in no time at all.....
Hunter seems to have a lot of "baggage"...he comes with a few items: leash, collar and tags, harness, food, treats, long line, blanket, toys, travel carrier, jacket, rain coat, chew bones, and a few other things as well. I wonder if I will have to rent a U-Haul. He also is a confirmed mouser, watch dog, hunting and guard dog. I guess I can get rid of the alligators in the moat.
LOL - lots of stuff !!!! Keep us posted on the status of the app !
I can hardly wait to meet more of Hunter!
Mike, I once fostered two dogs who came with everything from rain coats and boots to two cartons of stuffed toys. I can see a jacket for Hunter it is freezing here in MI, but a rain coat, I don't think so.
Great news and a good looking little guy! Keep us posted.
So he's a mouser!
way way cool
Dolly would definitely approve. She was chasing a mouse the day we collected her from her "never" home. She later graduated to possums.
I think Hunter is going to be very much like Clifford who loved to catch critters (voles, shrews, possums) and valiantly try for larger faster invaders of his yard (rabbits and squirrels). The night Clifford met me at the door with the possum in his mouth was the best.

awwwwww Cliffie :comfort:
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy what a lucky dog is Hunter and what a lucky guy are you. Sending rays that all goes well with the adoption, but from my side it's a NO BRAINER to make Hunter yours. He is sure a cutie!!!!

Handsome DUDE !
I haven't been on in awhile and this brought some happy tears to my eyes! I was just just thinking about you a couple of weeks ago when I saw a BoBo in the store that was made out of the tough material. I wondered then if the dog-a-pult was winding up.
This little guy looks full of energy and like a pup that will keep you young and on your toes. He will have the best life ever with you!
I held each of mine up to the monitor to look at Hunter. Brekke looked, Robinton tried sniffing the screen, Bastian looked, and then when I held Rowan up, Bastain began to bark. I had to tell him Hunter is a younger "man", and many states away, so he would stop! What an alert dachsie he looks to be! Batten down the hatches, here comes Hunter! (Yeah, lose the alligators - remember that story from Boca Raton many years ago, about the dachsie who was swallowed whole, and then chewed its way out?)
Well, the big day has been set for this Saturday at 9 a.m. I'll have about a 2 hour drive to Benton Harbor MI. We'll wander the PetSmart to see if the Dapple Dynamo (the foster mom's words!!!) and I hit it off. I think we will...
If Benton Harbor wasn't that far Danni and I would take a road trip to meet you and Hunter. Best wishes.

Marcia, after all these years of posting back and forth I would enjoy meeting you and Danni. Maybe come summer we could revive the Bow Wow tradition and get Darcel to join us somewhere in the middle. That wouldn't be much farther for me than going to the Midwest Dachshund Picnic in Danville IL.
Good Luck Hunter sure looks handsome hope everyone gets along and it goes well.
What great news. You're sure to get on well: the dapple dynamo and you as a veteran dachsie Dad are sure to go brilliantly together. Hope you have a good drive there and back and lots of fun bonding. We are looking forward to a low by blow account and tons of piccies.
as a foster parent it's really kinda my duty to inform you of what to expect.
Dogs really have a very small world and their owners (foster mom) are a very big part of that small world. So don't be surprised if he doesn't take to you right off the bat, in fact he could see you as a threat to his mother and nip you to protect her. Possible, not probable. My own adoptee, Mr. Wilson, did this when his foster mom brought him to my house for the home visit. Honestly Mr. Wilson wanted nothing to do with me. However it only took about 12 hours at my house for Mr. Wilson decide that I was alright and he's been my little velcro dog ever since. He's stuck to me like glue.
Or it could be like when I got Foster Dog Benny from a pound in Knoxville....I threw the tennis ball once, and Benny was all over me.
Point being >>>>> don't expect the first visit to go well.
So....some bacon (high value food/treats) his favorite toy and some play, being nice to his mother....he'll get the idea that your probably ok.
Hunters crate, a good body harness and leash are required for travel to his new home. When it's time to leave have foster mom load him into his crate in your car. Put his blanket into the crate and load him while he's wearing his harness with leash attached. He stays in the crate until you reach home.
Hug-a-dog harness' are the preferred harness. Although wal-mart sells a decent harness for a good price, the company is SimplyDog, about $11. The nylon webbing harness just won't cut it.
It's early and I have to get ready for work, I'll post more later...
This is just something to think about, keep in the back of your head, be prepared. Im sure you'll do fine.
oLlIe here ....... I bit my MaMa on day one ....... just sayin'
In the long run she loved me enough to buy a new house .... just for ME.

Thanks for your words of wisdom. I don't aniticipate canine jubilation and will be happy with indifference.
As I wrote higher up in this string, Hunter comes with a lot of "stuff": leash, collar and tags, harness, food, treats, long line, blanket, toys, travel carrier, jacket, rain coat, chew bones, and a few other things as well. I have Duncan's Hold-A-Dox harness, but he was a couple pounds lighter than I'm told Hunter is so it might be a little snug. I will have a kennel secured in the 2nd row of the mini van (fold away seats) if his carrier is too small for the trip home. I will let the foster mother weigh in on that decision.
PILES Of positive rays coming your way for a smooth transition.
(Hunter, it is not necessary to bark the entire time or chew up the car seat on the way home.)
When ya get him home, I know you'll want to SPOIL him, but "boot camp"* his furry little tuchas. But then, you know that. So glad you will have a furry companion again. You are a great hu-dad and deserve all the canine love in the world.

As Benton Harbor is too far for a day trip, I would love to meet somewhere in the middle with Miss Hilde. Sounds like great fun.
Still keeping all fingers and paws crossed for a great meeting on Saturday. :xfinger: :xfinger:

Sending you lots of Safe.Trip.Rayz !!!! We will all be waiting for a report... and pictures !!!!! :headbang:

Hot diggety Dog!
So glad to read this Mike! Have a safe trip and a Bean-like meet-up. My thoughts are with you both. Love the name, maybe you can take a trip to Aspen, the home of another Hunter -and swing by Boulder again...
Ollie says it all...........time and love. Well maybe not the house. So channeling Hunter "hang loose".

Susie, from your lips to Dog's ears...
the Foster mom and Hunter entered the store and asked if I was Mike (I flashed my DD Murray Dancing Dachshund T-shirt and said Yes). Hunter sniffed me over (hey, his hands smell like BACON!!) and washed my face (oh, I think there's some sausage and eggs in his beard!!). We walked around the store (uh oh, we have POOP) and found no issues. Now someone DOES need to loose a couple pounds but we'll blame that on the holidays.
Foster mom asks I am taking him and the answer "from the first time I saw his posting I was taking him". Hunter climbed in the crate without blinking an eye and layed down. After another long drive home we unloaded his things we went to visit grandma and grandpa and auntie. Another auntie and a cousin dropped by and more oohing and aaahing. After that it was time for a nap while the grownups yakked so Hunter climbed in my lap (I was sitting on the floor) and fell sound asleep. I think we're off to a good start.
:hello2: :hello2: Happy Dance, Happy Dance...................happening in Greenacres for Mike and Hunter! We knew it would be a perfect meeting and forever home!! :hello2: :hello2: :thumb: :thumb:

just what we wanted to hear
Hunter sounds lovely! I bet you two will have a ball getting to know each other.
That is lovely news. Once you get a good nights sleep and have the camera ready we would really appreciate some more piccies. Welcome home Hunter!
So happy to hear Saturday went well with your new furbaby. :thumb: Keep us posed on how the adjustment goes.
