:eeew: I caught Bastian this morning with something in his mouth - outside - and told him to drop it. He did - and it was a live, but injured baby rat - about 2" long, plus tail. Then I didn't know what to do - I knew one of the dachsies would get it before I could get the shovel. I picked it up by the tail, and dropped it over the fence, and used lots of antibacterial soap. Then, it was dusk when we took an evening potty break. This time, we were INSIDE when I realized he had something - same routine "drop it" he does, and it's another injured baby rat, so again, I pick it up by the tail, and take it outside to the fence, and use LOTS of antibacterial soap. I think we'll be going out on leashes tomorrow - and no, there are NO pictures, again, I say :eeew:
Double EWWWWW! Double bacterial soap.
Eeew yucky. So where all these unwanted babies coming from? What are they doing turning up at your door? Also wondering how you get antibacterial soap into a dachsie mouth.....poor you and poor Bastian. He deserves extra treats for his prowess though - the only good rat is a dead one.
Eeewwwwww for sure!!!!! Hope he has it all out of his system and there are no more "presents!"
Yikes, sounds like a momma rat is lurking around. We are trapping a lot of small mice right now. It's getting cold and they are coming in the garage. We usually get about 50-60 a winter. This year we have started early hopefuly before the breeding starts.
Fortunately our garage is not attached to the house. I'd go nuts if they were in the house. I'm sure Parker would let us know if they came inside. Parker is banished from the garage. I can't have him getting a paw stuck in a trap.
Good luck.
Ewww....sitting here thinking how it would feel to be crunching a baby rat in my mouth. Kudos to you to pick them up by the tail!
At least he dropped it when told. Very good boy. EEEWWW, is right, though. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall and seen the look on your face as you were carrying the "babies" out of dachsie reach. We've had rat problems around here, too. Gretchencaught one but, thank goodness, she instantly killed it and dropped it. We have both sides of our shed blocked off with chicken wire. It backs up, about a foot, from the fence. Ron throws packs of poison back there. We can tell they've been eating it but don't see any. We live a few miles from a grain elevator so plan on it being an ongoing problem - just don't want to see them!!
