Title: Bald Buddy & bleeding
Post by: papbouv on July 15, 2012, 11:20:44 PM
Any one have any ideas I'm about ready to put Buddy to sleep last summer he had a bald spot on one side and hip went to the vet they did a skin scrape checked it for skin mites 0 mites, asked for a thyroid test so they said his thyroid was fine but they told me that while i was there it was not sent off.We started pills in June on into August he got better. This summer it came back but has spread down both back legs 0 hair & bleeding, blood spots on his chest, scratching & chewing. Went to the vet this year where his breeder works as a vet tech but before we got there she had went home sick. The vet saw him said to give him benadryl up to 167mg and a spray used all that and all it did is get worse. Last summer Buddy came in one night had a spot the size of an eraser between his eyes and a little above, this year same thing came in with a spot above his eyes same place but this has been bleeding gotten allot bigger in a line going to leave a scar a big one. Gave him benadryl for a week not any better used the spray not any better. Then some one on Doberman Talk suggested giving him a bath in Seslen Blue the dandruff shampoo i had heard that long time ago so i bathed him in that seemed to have helped a tiiny bit. Then tonight let him and Patches out for last potty break he came  in all dirty been rolling in the dirt just mixed up some Braggs AC and water sprayed him down wiped him off. so hope he sleeps. Yest he gets 3-4  1000 mg of Norwegain Salmon oil a day & vit E  2 X a week. I feed Canaidae, Taste of the Wild but since the recall trying Earth born but he ate it last winter no problems. Also have some oatmeal spray for itchy dogs I sprayed on him. Patches Mom, Patches has no coat problem's at all.

I had a Jack Russel with very bad skin issues. He had acute allergies. His last four years of his life I had him on a vegitarian diet provided by his vet. Basically no corn, wheat, or meat. Snacks were carrots. I also bathed him in a medicated shampoo provided by the vet.
Good luck with Buddy....Take care....Kelly

I personally would go back to the vet, or see another one and insist that he get some relief.

I know it is different - but my Mary has had a couple bouts with mange.  In addition to meds, we got medicated shampoo that I had to use every 3 days.  Lather up and sit for 10 minutes while it soaks in.....    Luckly my girl is small and fit in the kitchen sink.... but there has to be something to help get Buddy some relief.

I think this year has been especially bad on allergies.... Rudy who has never seemed to itch has had a horrible year......

we are so sorry to read this and would like to ask whether he seems well otherwise - pooping, piddling, drinking, eating, sleeping, exercising -  since the awful skin problems can often be seasonal.

Where we are water quality is way worse in Summer ( hard water all year) and even filtered can exacerbate skin problems, i.e. My excema too.  Right now I look like somebody strangled me since I have a horrible excema ring all round my neck - we drink mineral or filtered but shower water is hard.  The same effect is valid for dogs.

We use Orijen fish and our super sensitive Red -  stomach and skin- has been fine since we started him on it.  Treats are all dry fish or fresh veg.

All our best f or Buddy and you.
