We are suppose to go on a short road trip going to be gone at least 4 hours maybe longer. Buddy the Doberman and Patches the Dachshund will be in the house since its suppose to be over a 100* degrees all next week most likely longer maybe all summer like last year. I called my son told him of the supposed trip also called the pet sitter that lives a few houses from us asked her if she would come let the fur kids out she said just to tell when. Then I will tell my neighbor that lives right across the street from us to keep an eye out on the house. Patches & Buddy are use to us being home all the time we have never been away from them at all except when one of us was in the hospital.
MIL has 2 dogs and a cat she leaves them all the time for hours and hours they also use her house as a bathroom he daughter is here from Neb she has cleaned all of my MIL carpets. I have offered many times to go let her dogs out she always says no I feel bad for her dogs one poodle/dachshund mix MIL has had for about 2 years the other a male Maltese she got from the pound about a week ago. She will be going on this short day trip along with her daughter, myself and her brother.MIL is mad because I asked how long we would be gone so I could tell the dog sitter.MIL thinks I should just leave my dogs in the house all day sorry I was not raised like that.My fur kids do not go potty in my house ever not unless they are sick that does not count. MIL does not understand why her dogs potty in her house she says they are house broke (not) MIL is 82 you cannot reason with her at all its her way or no way. Just wondered if I'm being unreasonable wanting to know how long we will be gone. Thanks for reading this, sorry for my venting just wondering about my self.
Of course you're not being unreasonable, and your MIL probably thinks that being housebroken means NEVER peeing or pooping if she thinks that leaving the dogs in the house all day long is acceptable.
You are right, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Just ignore nay sayers.
You are not being unreasonable. With our two furkids, they do okay being alone for up to four hours (they sleep the time away...no messes in the house). If we are gone any longer than that, our neighbor will come over and let them out and we do vice versa for them.
Both my husband and I work days so Parker is left in the laundry room 15ftX22ft for at least 9 hours. We have installed a web cam and he most sleeps in his bed, and he uses the pee pad for his business. Sometimes he will bark if the house is approached (mail man etc). It's not ideal, but we do have to buy kibble. He doesn't seem any worse for wear.
Cheers...Kelly
Thanks everyone you sometimes get to doubt yourself when you have two having a fit with what you are doing of course hubby sides with his mother all of the time.Of course I can't blame him boys and their mothers after all she is 83 but wants to live to be 100 years old.papbouv
No your not odd......................ours have a doggy door, but if left for more than 4 hours nanna or auntie looks in and any longer someone stays with them, as its what they are used to. But like dee says our pair sleep from when the car pulls away till it returns.....................

I'd rather have extra people available to let them out than just have one person who might forget! I think you're being very smart.
I concur with everyone !!! 3 of my 4 are penned each day...and either I go home at lunch or my dogwalker comes in after about 6 hrs. Thats as long as I want them to be penned at any time. I know many keep theirs crated or penned for longer hrs, but that is just my preference, and what I feel comfortable with. I also have a doggie cam, and for the most part...all they do is sleep ! Do what you feel comfortable with !
Well the trip went fine the only thing that happened is one of the Fur kids took a box that had two left over KFC biscuits in it I had it on the middle of the table up against the wall. The Pet sitter found it on the floor so she put it back up on the table about in the same place I had it all closed up just no biscuits inside had to call her and ask. My fault should have put them in the microwave so will know next time we go any where. The got a shock Buddy Barked in the house at the front door we have had him 6 years has not barked in the house at all usually Patches does all the barking.
Papbouv thanks for all your answers
