Do you guys remember that sometime earlier this year John's car was broken into while parked right outside of our house on the street?
Well it happened again! This time his car was parked in our driveway - right up next to the house - and my jeep was even parked behind it. It had been storming, so he had turned the car alarm off and forgot to turn it back on. Same as last time, they bashed in the driver's window and stole the stereo. Same as last time, no other thefts in the neighborhood have been reported.
We live in a regular suburban neighborhood. It is considered to be pretty safe and we've never had problems until this year, and it appears to just be us. No other complaints have been filed according to the officer that came out - incidentally it was the same officer that came last time. I cannot believe this happened again. Last time they got about a $400 stereo, $100 watch, about 200 cd's and maybe some tools. This time it appears they only got the stereo- which cost us about $200. I don't think we are going to put another radio in at all this time. Still we have to spend $200 more bucks to put a new window in.
Does the universe just have it in for us this month????
I think I would invest in a camera to watch/record things outside! That is crazy. I'm so sorry this stuff is happening to you all! {{HUGS}}
Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately it seems that we live in a time when in a situation like this the police basically take a report and file it. Unless they happen to be standing next to the vehicle when the theft occurs, nothing is going to get done. The attitude seems to be "that's life, report it to your insurance company." So if the theft is over your deductible, you get to pay more for your insurance premiums, and like your decision not to reinstall a radio, give up having some of the good things of life. The protect part of "serve and protect" is long gone.
I would call my alderman/city councilperson and tell your story, then call daily asking what is being done to a) recover your goods and b) increase police presence in your neighborhood. If you don't get answers, show up at a council meeting and ask questions publicly. This generates negative publicity. Politicians don't like to be bothered and like negative publicity even less and stuff will roll downhill to the police department. Pressure from above has much more effect than pleas for help to the local officers.
Sorry to hear about the robbery. We had a stereo stolen out of our car many years ago, and it still aggravates me when I think about it.
I had a stereo with a removable face plate in my last car. It only took a microsecond to pop it out and drop into my purse and it rendered the rest of the stereo completely useless!
I am so sorry Krista! Seriously, this is the last thing that you need! :verdict:
Penny says she will come and help hunt them down! :rescue:
Thanks for your thoughts, Rich. The police coverage in our neighborhood is good. We live only about a half mile from city hall and the police department offices. I don't feel like they are to blame. There have been no other reported thefts on our block this year. This seems to be targeted at us.
There are much nicer cars and nicer stereos than my husband's in our neighborhood. He drives a 95 summit - little economy car (his motorcycle is his nicer vehicle and it is in the garage) and the radio cost us less than $200. The first radio they stole was nicer, and retailed for about $600 (though we paid less - about 400). It had a removable face-plate and they took the thing anyways without the face. Dumb....
It does sound like you're being targeted. We had problems a while ago with our car being broken into and one having the spinners off of the hubcaps stolen, but it wasn't just us. There were a lot of thefts in the area at the time. Any idea if someone has it in for you or the DH?
I'm SO sorry - what a mess!!! Someone broke into my car (and another person's) at work last year; they didn't take anything (even left CDs and a dollar that was in the console), but went through a tote bag of paperwork I had in there. Really makes you feel violated - and then there was the $800 to replace the window (we did not submit to insurance since the premiums would go up).
Hoping :xfinger: that this NEVER happens to you again. Maybe you can find some sort of stereo that is completely removable (instead of just the faceplate). I know it's hard not to have a stereo, especially on long drives.
Having read this again and thought about it I do think that your hubby is being targeted for some reason. Especially since your car was right next to it and not bothered. Has anyone done/said anything to him or gotten mad about something he's done? That's still cruddy to have your personal space violated like that...
Krista I am so sorry it seems you guys just can't catch a break. But you have to look on the the bright side of this and remember it could have been worse. I have a friend that's daughter may have meningitis.
Oh man I know exactly how you feel. Last year They broke into my towncar and stole my 450 stereo and then a month later they broke into my husbands truck and didnt get to get anything cause my husband had really good window tint that didnt allow the widow to shatter and the hole they made with a rock wasnt big enough for their hand to unlock door.Ha Ha!Our cars were targeted cause at the time we were in a car club and we were well know for the stuff we had.Once we got out of the club it calmed down for a couple of months. Then one time my brother and his girlfriend stayed over and she parked her car in front of my house and it was broken into. I felt so bad that I paid to get her window fixed that they shattered. Her insurance paid for her stereo and speakers.I decided to put up a fence in our front yard and new alarm that you can hear a mile away and have been safe ever since.oh yeah and the radio with faceplates that come off.just remember to take off all the time! The fence was good cause now my kids can play in front without me worrying about them going into the street. The backyard dogs pretty much rule the backyard. They are our guard dogs.As for my little babies they are bark but no bite.I need a biter when someone is here that is not suppose to be.
I hate to say it, but I would make bet on this being either one of your neighbors, or someone you already know. And what the police don't bother to tell you is that the thief KNOWS you will be replacing what they took, so they can come back and do it again. It may be time to clean out enough space in the garage to get the car in. I'd never make it, myself. Northerners think garages in Florida are first floor basements.
If you own a camcorder and a vcr.....I think I would set up a surveillance on the drive. And ask the police to make a point of driving around the house more often.
I hate to hear of this happening to you. It really sounds like someone has your hubby targeted. I've been there. It sucks.
