Title: Sarge could Use some Rays*update-surgery DONE !!!*
Post by: DeeanDave on April 22, 2012, 10:37:33 AM
On Friday, a growth that Sarge has on the side of his face cracked and split open.  We took him to the vet on Friday afternoon and they kept him for a few hours in order to stop the bleeding. They did get it stopped but by late Friday evening, with the skin covering, it split more....the vet's office had used a nitrate stick on it but did not cover it.  And with it's location, he bumped it and what had been closed split more.  It's not bleeding but there is a weeping so we've been keeping it covered with a guaze pad with tri-care medicine ointment, co-flex tape and a newborn baby sock to keep it protected.  We will be calling the vet's office first thing tomorrow morning to get him scheduled for surgery to have the growth removed.  The doc did say on Friday, if we wanted it removed to call the office and get him on the schedule.  He is doing fine and is his normal self....no problems there...eating fine and drinking and all the other business, playing and barking.  The issue of the growth doesn't seem to bother him as much as it does his momma.  I've debated if I should take him back in before tomorrow but it would mean the emergency vet and they don't know him and he gets so stressed out that he is on the verge of panic where with his regular vet and techs, he is not quite as bad.  So, as long as I am covering it and he is doing fine and shows no sign of pain, I want to wait until he can see his regular vet.  He is so good for me when it's time for me to change the covering.....he just lays down on his side and lets me do what I need to do.

So rays would be so much appreciated....thanks all.  I'll post updates or if I can't get on, I'll ask Barb if she could post for me.  Thanks all!

Bucketloads of rays for our Sarge !!!! As long as he is eating, pooping, peeing, sleeping and acting normally, I think waiting until tomorrow to see your own vet should be fine.  You are doing an awesome job keeping it cleaned...and if he isn't messing with it -that is great !!!  Wonder if it might feel somewhat better since it is draining?   Yes, by all means - please update me when you can, and I will update everyone here.....

We are all thinking of you, and KNOW how much harder it is on us than them, most times......that is why all of our middlenames are......WorryWart

:comfort:   to a worried mommy.....

really, the momma always worries more! A clean draining boo boo is ugly, but just keep an eye on it. I prescribe bacon, orally, twice a day.  :2funny:

Update from Dee:

Sarge is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday, 4/25.  We will drop him off between 7 and 8 am, I will fill out the paperwork and they will do his bloodwork before the surgery.  If all is fine on the bloodwork, in he goes; if a problem, then the doc will look at other alternatives.  I'm keeping positive thoughts that all will be fine all the way around.  After dropping him off, we will go pick up Reagan.  And, Sarge would be ready to be picked up between 5 and 5:30 pm.

We will all be waiting on pins and needles Wed !!!!!!

Just got this from Dee !!!

The vet's office called and Sarge is doing real good.  They called once to tell me that they were just finishing up on him and Heidi just called and said that he was in recovery and waking up real well.  They will do a post-op check on him in a couple of hours.....i.e, his vitals post surgery....they did them pre-surgery and I paid the extra to have them monitor his vitals during his surgery.  He did very well.  The doc want to send the cyst in as he is not sure what it is......he evidently did cut into it and can't figure out what it is.....so we will send it off.  I get to pick him up at 5 pm tonight.

What a relief.  We hope the biopsy goes well too.  One thing for sure, the Sarge couldn't b.e better looked after than he is and is certain to be suitably pampered during his convalescence.  Get well soon sweetie and enjoy the rest.
