Title: Saw a fellow doxie owner at the vet
Post by: Barry on April 19, 2012, 10:36:47 AM
and we traded stories of how similar they all are.  Does yours do these things?

Lick the sheet on the bed?

Play with a tennis ball and rip all the fuzz off of it?

Does a diggin motion on the bed with her front feet.  To the point she gets off balance and puts her head on the bed to be stable.

When me and my wife hug, Missy will stand beside us and bark constantly. (Jealous dog)

Everything but the barking.   Max-angel would do that, but none of the other dachsies would.

The burrowing and falling on the side really isn't falling on the side. I think that is a combination of marking / play gesture.    It usually keeps going into a full roll, which we call "Happy Rolls".   All of our males have done it at one point or another.  Zeke and Rudy-angel do the Happy Rolls the most.

I'm with David.  All but the barking here, and Murphy is the most likely to do the head resting while digging that turns into rolling.  Winston is the most likely to rip up a tennis ball.  All of them lick the sheets (or fabric on the sofa).  Ick.

My other doxie (Dutchess) would do the barking thing when we hugged too. I think they are jealous when it "isn't about them"

How about rolling on the toys?  Both of mine have done that.  I heard it was from "marking the toys with their scent"

How about trying to "hog" heating pad?  My wife had the heating pad on her the other day and Missy was scratching at her to move and as soon as she did, Missy took over.

Hot clothes out of the dryer?  Missy lays on them every time.

Gotta love them doxies

Most of the above, all the above in fact and add sitting outside the bathroom waiting for me and pulling his bedcloth up the hall to meet you.

all of the above, plus Brekke is so obsessive/compulsive about belly rubs, you almost fall because she flings herself underfoot.  She does this for my remodelling contractor, the plumber, the electrician, the painters, the water filtration service man, and even the cable guy!  (Okay, so I'm lucky - they all have dachsies!  Even my manicurist has a dachsie, but so far, she only sees Brekke in the piccies on my cell.)
