Hi!  I'm Janice and I used to post on Dachshund Circus many years ago.  Today, I received an email from a fellow dachshund owner titled "Hallie's Art" with a link to a site about a B/T longhaired dachshund who paints.  I was curious to see if Hallie was the same Hallie that was owned by Dee Dee Murray whom I got to 'know' through her posts on Dachshund Circus.  And, in fact, it was!!!

Dee Dee, I'm so glad that Hallie is still doing well despite her blindness.  The "Evening Magazine" clip was delightful!

For those of you who might remember me, I live in MA and owned three mini dachshunds:  Abby, Cody, and Heidi.

Abby, my red smooth, my sweet little girl went to Rainbow Bridge at the age of 16 1/2.  She had suffered from inflammatory bowel disease all her life, but with a careful diet and lots of love, she lived a great life.  Her little body finally wore out and I had to let her go last November.  I will miss her forever......

In 2008, Cody, my male, B/T smooth suddenly became paralyzed from the neck down at the age of 12 1/2.  Given the location of the break and given his age, I decided not to put him through the surgery and recovery because if he didn't regain the use of his front paws, he wouldn't have even been a candidate for a cart.  That period would have been torture for my little dog who wanted nothing more than to finally catch that darn squirrel in the back yard.  I made the incredibly difficult decision to let him go and I miss him to this day.

Heidi, my red L/H is now 14 1/2 and is doing well.  Because she wasn't happy being alone, I rescued a young bichon/poodle mix, Madi.  Madi is VERY smart, was VERY easy to train and loves Heidi VERY much.....which annoys my little old lady a LOT!  LOL!  As much as I love, Madi, however, she is not a dachshund and I am looking into rescuing a male dachs soon.

I'm so glad that many of the original folks who posted on Dachshund Circus are still here.  I'll be checking in more often!

Thanks Mike! It was an interesting adventure for sure. Hallie amazes me at how calm and collected she stays even with the crew in her house making noises and big cameras and lighting clunking etc. She took it all in stride. She is almost sold out of paintings this morning, she needs to get to her easel but she's still working on that morning/afternoon nap.  :thumb: Oh and she sold like 12 paintings overnight...I sold 1!

Hi Janice! Yes, of COURSE we remember you! I have thought of you over the years and wondered how you and your crew were doing. So sorry Abby and Cody are gone! I remember the problems Abby had with her IBD, you did a great job with her to have her make it to 16.5. No matter the age though, it's never nearly long enough and is devastating to lose them. Horrible what happened to Cody also. You did the right thing given the severity of his injury and his age, not to put him through all he would have had to go through. How heart wrenching! I'm so sorry. Those back problems are way too rampant in our wonderful breed, if I ever get another dog some day it won't be a doxie for that reason, which is a real shame because that is where my heart is.

I can't believe Cody is 14.5 too. Time flies way too fast. Glad to hear she is doing well though and glad you have your Heidi! Would love to see pictures of them both. Good to have you back on the board. Hallie is doing very well with her blindness. I hate it and would give anything for her to have her sight back but since we can't, she has really been amazing. It was a rough start since she went blind so suddenly but she is the one who showed me she didn't want to give up all the things she used to love doing.

It's so nice that she's taking all this in stride. That girl will roll with any punch life gives her, as long as you are by her side. She had better start splashing cold water on her face and get to it!

Roberta I was sending you emails with dates etc but they kept bouncing back?

LOL Delia, she did finally revive, did 5 quick paintings, ate and back to sleep. Now we are going out on the town again!

Bless her little cotton socks, she really is unbelievably clever, thanks so much for posting the linkso we can see you both from over here in Spain too.  You two are so talented you really do belong together, I cannot imagine anyone else but you would come up with such an ideal way of keeping Hallie entertained and challenged, congratulations all round.

I've tried not to have her paint because she painted quite a bit when they were here filming and I dont' want her to get tired of doing it,  but she has sold out of paintings twice since it aired so she did a few more last night. The rescue she is donating all the proceeds to is going to name a wall or something in the new building the money goes for, after her. I told her Hallie would like the Ding Wing.  :thumb: Heh.

This Thursday we are going up to King 5 TV in Seattle to be on another show, New Day Northwest. This time Hallie will be painting in front of a live audience. Yeeks!

We'd sure trade it all to get her sight back in a second but at least she is having fun and still able to get out and be social which she has always loved.
