Title: Ozzy waking up much earlier, having to go potty....
Post by: MindyKay on February 07, 2012, 11:51:13 AM
Ozzy sleeps in a crate next to our bed.  Here in the past couple of weeks, he has started whining and wanting out, anytime between 3:00 - 5:00 a.m.  We go to bed at around 10:00 p.m. and I let Ozzy out right before.  I normally get up between 5:30 and 6:00, but it seems that Ozzy is not able to last that long anymore.

He is 9 years old.  Is this something to do with age, or should I check with the vet at our next visit?

I would go with my gut.  Get him checked out.

Is Ozzy fixed ? sometimes older gents have prostate problems also may have a UTI would not hurt to get him checked out by the vet. Hugs & Rays, patches ,Buddy Papbouv

Sorry, forgot to update everyone...it was a UTI.  He still whines a little towards morning, though.  Amy is home, preparing for her wedding, and Ozzy is sleeping with her, with no whining or wanting out (and no peeing on the floor), so I think he just wants out of the kennel.  We also have him on a daily joint med, no problems, just preventive.  Also had to remove more teeth.  He's a happy guy, still wants to play (he will be 10 in December) and chases squirrels in the yard.

Just remember sometimes the round of  antibiotic's may not work sometimes if symptoms are still there may need to change pills or take another round some UTI's are stubborn. Also cranberry capsules might help cranberry juice keeps bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall most dogs would not drink it so they now have cranberry capsules.Glad he is doing better Rays & Hugs.

It can also be all of the above with a touch of age and a bit of whining, all together.  Bambi is 14 1/2 now, and she can no longer go all night.  I go to bed very early, at 7 pm, and get up at 3:15, but she sometimes wakes me up at 2 am wanting to go out.  I take her downstairs, open the doggie door, and go back to bed.  She just waits for me downstairs.
