One thing I've noticed with my dachsies is how they behave when you pick them up. Zeke (and Rudy & Max-angels) will pull their front paws underneath them so that their pads are almost facing upwards...kind of like the way an airplane retracts its landing gear in flight. Zora, on the other hand, leaves her front paws straight in the "down" position, like an airplane with fixed (non-retractable) landing gear. So I was curious how your dachsie's "landing gear" is set up.
Schatzi leaves hers down, too. The only time she pulls them up is when she doesn't want me to put her down, especially on the wet ground! Wonder if we will find it is a girl thing. Will be interesting to find out.
 Both Oliver the Elder and Amy are legs down.
Roberta
Patches keeps hers down.
Guinness hunches his back and does what could only be described as a "spread eagle." All four legs are out as far as they can go. It's like he's trying to will himself back to solid ground. (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-rolleyes010.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
Although, if he's is at ground level, he will yip mercilessly until he is picked up, so he can join in the conversation. :verdict:
LOL - apparently I am very un-observant....I need to go home and pick each of them up to see what they do :2funny:
I, too, am unobservant. Had to pick up Bonnie (such a chore) to figure this one out. She's definitely a "Landing gear down" gal. Feet straight down.
Hilde is landing gear down girlie, too.
Weird that my guys do it. Maybe it's how I pick them up? When I carry two at a time, I carry them like loaves of bread under each arm.
Parker's feet are moving when I set him down. When he hits the ground he shoots off like a rocket.
EmmyLou is a "spread eagle" until she's going down, then they are straight down and ready for the landing on solid ground...
Looking again, Zeke does retract his legs, but his forepaws are pointed straight down, not pointed upward. To me it looks like a dachshund in mid-jump.
