Title: Dachshund wanted in Pennsylvania
Post by: Dee Dee and Hallie on November 25, 2005, 01:50:36 PM
I got a call from someone looking for a dachshund for their son. They live in Pennsylvania. I don't know much other than they have 3 dogs and the 13 yr old (I think...13 or 15) is the only one in the family who doesn't have his own dog and fell in love with a friends dachshund. So they are wanting to get him one. I do know they are good animal people, I was commissioned years ago to draw the boys mother's keeshonds. But I don't know them, (the grandmother lives near me so she called me from seeing the bow wow and Hallie articles in the newspaper). I am steering them toward rescue but am not finding many doxies available in their area. Thought I'd post here to see if anyone knows of a rescue or someone with a doxie needing a home. Not sure what they want, pup, male, female, etc...

Have them check the Dachshund Rescue Web Page. they always have dogs up for adoption for hardly anything.

What part of PA are you in? There are a lot of dachsies in shelters. I did a search on petfinder and found a bunch. I live near Hershey and there are several in my area.

I've checked all of the dachshund rescue pages in the area that I could find, I did find one dog and told them about her. I live in Wash. state but these people are in Pennsylvania, she said near Pittsburgh (Scenery Hill) which I guess is also near Wheeling, WV?? I also searched pet finders for the area and found the same dog I found on the rescue page there. I'm not 100% sure they would even take a rescue, I'm talking to the grandmother who lives near me, who hoped I would know of someone with a pup for sale for them, but I am hoping they might consider a rescue.

Thanks!!!  :thumb:

Dachshund Rescue Web Page had a few young ones in there and in the surrounding areas. They may have to drive a little distance to get the doggy. I paid $500 to get Petunia from Indiana to Arizona. I didn't want her flying cargo so I paid for Beckie to bring her down to me.  She was not one of her pups---she found Petunia's mom as a stray,  ready to give birth and took her home with her. I think Beckie has some pups and older dogs,  you might have them check with her,  transporting a dog by cargo is only 80 dollars. Beckie will go out of her way to get them to their home,  her husband is a vet--he is does work for DRNA so pups are always in good shape. Hope they find their little baby before X-Mas, I love these little dogs so much.

There is one named Alvin, up in Warren county. That really isn't too far from Pittsburgh, maybe a couple hours drive. If you want, you can give my email address to the grandmother to pass along...and I can help them find one...might be easiest since I live in Pa. We'll find them a dachsie if it kills us :)

Tell them to also look at the Ohio and NY doggities!

Our Patches came from Ohio on the Doxie Railway and he went through Pittsburg to get to MD!  The folks were just great getting him here.

I also suggest that they if they don't see a rescue that looks "just right" to keep watching.  It took several calls for us to find Patches and he was worth the wait.

I can't say enough about adopting a rescue doxie!  The puppers are so grateful!

Have them look at Coast to Coast Daschie Rescue in Canton Ohio.  That's where Patches came from and Canton is only a few hours from Pittsburg!

Hi Diane
Thanks for this info I will pass it along to them as well. I love a good rescue story too. I got my Hallie from an animal shelter, although I always say she rescued me and I'M the grateful one.  I think these folks were wanting a puppy and one by Christmas...I am not involved other than the Mom who lives here, contacted me to see if I knew of any doxies out where her daughter lives, and I don't know her well other than I did a drawing for them years ago. So I am not in contact with the daughter and her family who wants the doxie. But I hope they do go with a rescue.

someone posted on another board that there are 2 doxies in a Texas shelter one a choco dapple they will only ask 4 dollars for him(don't know if that is a mistake) He is a 2 year old male upto date on shots neutered. Even if they had to pay for shipping--which is usually 80 dollars,  but the lady said they could help with transport. Then there is a 1 1/2 year old female she needs to be spayed and she is 39.00 dollars. They are in the San Angelo Animal shelter in Texas.

I have been out of pocket for a while but I have JD that needs a teenage boy to play with. Transportation to the right home is not a problem. Have them check him out at www.drna.org

....where we got Luther, specializes in long-distance adoptions and they have many Doxies.  Please try and have them consider rescue.  The people at Hearts United find people who help transport....a guy who was adopting from there going to Wyoming let Luther hitch a ride to the Colorado border where we met him and got our beautiful boy.  Love to The Princess from my girls and boy, Dee Dee!!
