Title: health question
Post by: Barry on October 31, 2011, 05:15:35 PM
My 6 year old Missy, started licking her stomach area   a couple of days ago and when I looked closer, she has a lump about the size of a penny on her underside.  The lump had to pop up in the last couple of days because that is when she started giving it attention and if it would have been there any longer, my wife or I would have noticed it.  Any idea what it could be?  We are going to the vet tomorrow for her annual checkup, so we'll find out then.

My first thought would be spider or some other kind of bug bite. Let us know what the vet says!

Missy's lump turned out to be some kind of bug bite.  The vet took a needle to it and tested the fluid.  She is now on some medication for it.  Thanks for the reply.

I had to take Missy back to the vet a few days after I posted about her being on medication.  Sorry, I didn't update.  A few days of her being on the medication, the lump ruptured and looked nasty.  She had an open wound and was licking it constantly.  It was all red and looked infected.  The vet said the medication she was on wasn't strong enough and gave her a shot and some more meds to go with the other.  Missy is now doing much better but is still on the last of her meds (3 weeks later). The vet said she was lucky not to have to have surgery.  Thanks again.

Yikes!  I'm glad she is doing better now. Those wounds can get nasty in a hurry!
