I guess most of us would do almost anything to protect our pups too, but am not sure I could mange this one.
Merion & the ZZ's
Wow. That is an amazing story she'll have to tell her grandchildren some day! I would punch a bear for Hallie, no question! I would literally give my life for her if it was needed. But I think I'll stay down here in suburbia, less chance for a bear encounter! :thumb:
I read this last night !!! I think all of us will let instincts take over, and not even think about the danger....... She sure had some strong motherly instincts. So glad all is ok....
Parental instincts just kick in when our kids (or kidz) are in danger. This lady is pretty lucky as is Fudge.
Earlier this week Duncan and I were on a walk when a large black dog (pit bull mix?) came running and growling at us as we walked by his house. There is no fence but the family was sitting near the back of the side yard. I yelled NO!! to stop Duncan cold so I could grab him before he went into viral counterattack mode (he's not shy). The owner heard me and yelled out "it's OK, there's an invisible fence and he can't get out". My shout helped bring the pit to a stop as well. The invisible fence wouldn't have stopped Duncan from entering the grass to be mauled even on the short leash I keep him on.

Holy CROW, Mike. Screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO was my only defense when we were in a similar situation. I almost p**ed myself, honestly.
Sorry but those invisible fences are not worth the TNT to blow them up worse invention every made if a dog has any prey drive at all they will blow right though them in a heart beat. Plus any dog can go through it to get on the property also very glad you yelled so the family could yell at their dog also.Glad no one got hurt after, Buddy was attacked by the Pit bull /Boxer jumped the fence and went after him I have tied my cane on to my scooter next dog is going to get smacked with my cane.Patches was with us Buddy has fought two dogs while wearing a back pack and on leash. Hate to say this but glad it was him and not little Patches but Buddy is about a 90# - 30"
Doberman with really big teeth biggest teeth i have ever seen on any dog but Buddy has a really big Sagel Crest ( Knowledge bump) means they have really strong jaws ???. Sorry got off track, just very glad all is OK and no one got hurt.
