Thumbs up Sardines, Good For Allergies
Just have to post this information. Parker has been suffering pretty badly from enviromemtal allergies all this summer. I have dosed with benedryl, given theraputic doses of fish oil, added olive oil, moved to a fish only kibble for the summer. Did all those things both seperately and all together. Parker itched thru it all. Three days ago I started giving him sardines again. He gets one can a day, half before his morning meal, half before his evening meal. I give them this way so he doesnt have fish breath after eating his meals. Itching slowed down and after three days of sardines, he is no longer itching. I have put off taking him to the vet because I knew she would give him a steriod shot and probably a months supply of antibiotics and I didnt want that again. I wanted to treat nutritionally if I could find what would work for him. He had some hives that didnt itch and some that did. The non itching ones have about disappeared and I am watching the others. They are not bothering him like they were. The sardines packed in water the above are Doberman people so a Dachshund would only need like a 1/4 of a can or so.

Thank you for sharing this! I don't know how we missed it for so long.  We will check with our vet and see if Porky can try them. It should be totally fine though. Thanks!!!

I tried this for Parker to see if it would help his paw licking obsession. So far no change in behaviour, however, he eats the sardines before he eats his other food. He loves them so I figure no harm, sardines for treats for Parker!!!!!

What food are you feeding Peter Parker the sardines I have been giving Buddy my Doberman I give him 1 sardine with his dry dog food
since it is a holistic type treatment may take awhile to see an improvement. Usually when they lick their feet they are allergic to something in their food????

I got some for Hallie too, about a month or so ago. So far no change here yet either but like you said it could take a while. She likes them!

When we first got Parker the breeder gave us a bag of dog food. He hated it and only ate when he was famished. Parker is a very slim dog and will refuse food if he doesn't like it. We switched him to Royal Canine for Doxies kibble. He likes it well enough, but won't eat it in the morning. I don't like Parker to go all day without food so we give him a bit of Blu Canned food, and about 1/4 can of sardines packed in water which started this week. He devours the sardines and eats the canned dog food second. Then he is left all day with a bowl of water, 3 pee pads, and his bed and blanket in the laundry room. (He can't be left unsupervised in the house. We had a cam and watched him jump on furniture and off the back of the couch, chew the coffee table legs, dig at the carpet and pees where ever he feels like). I'm going to stick with the sardines for a while longer and see what happens. Can't hurt him and he attacks it like a treat. For treats he gets cooked chicken and an elk bone. The elk bones don't splinter and break off and he love them better then a knuckle bone. No raw hides or anything like that because he swallows big pieces and chokes. His toys are kongs with tails, and stuffies when he is supervised. He sometimes eats the stuffing and chokes.
