Title: Parker the Lifeguard
Post by: peterparker on August 09, 2011, 04:28:14 AM
We have an inground pool in our backyard. Needless to say, we have guests of all ages and sizes. Parker will not go in the water - thank goodness as there are no stairs, just ladders and he can't climb ladders.
Anyways, Parker always identifies the weakest swimmer in the water and stays at the very edge of the pool as close to the swimmer without getting wet. He never takes his eyes of the swimmer, and if the swimmer moves across the pool, he goes with the swimmer at the edge of the pool. He barks if he thinks the swimmer might be remotely in trouble. Everybody else in the pool can drown, he only watches the weakest. If somebody gets in the pool that is even a weaker swimmer then the one he is watching, he changes his alliance. It's uncanny how he knows.
If nobody is in the pool he rests. As soon as somebody goes in he barks and is right at the edge of the pool. We will always know if one of the kids slip in. He will tell us immediately. (Eddie used to do that too, but Eddie wouldn't stop and we had to put him in the house when we were swimming). Parker just barks to get our attention, and when we tell him it's okay, he just goes into lifeguard mode.
When just my husband and I are in the pool, he watches him. lol

Our first long hair angus used to do it at the beach when I went out in the catamaran, run up and down the edge till I came back. What a good boy you are Parker.

One time my wife and grandaughter were "horseplaying" in the pool and Missy (has never done this before) jumped in to join them.
