Title: has anyone got a Kindle 3
Post by: Roberta on May 22, 2011, 01:16:43 AM
I've just ordered one, and now looking at cases, I'm thinking of a metal one.........as the others  I've read make it quite heavy which is the reason I bought it, as I go down to Melbourne often and fed up humping two ton of book.

No experience with these.  I am starting to be tempted though.  But this sorta reminds me of the fun a few dacades ago with VCR's.  They originally had 2 formats, and those who got the other format could not play VHS on theirs.  It sounds like with these there are several formats, so it would not be like transferring music from one format to another.    I have been known to pick the "road less traveled" so odds seem to likely that I would pick a version just before its format stops being used!!

WEll on reading their is one guy that has suggested a hard cased pencil case solid in Squibble...............$14 versus $49 for the same thing, but the metal idea sounded a more ridgid, but then it could bounde of the inside of it...............I know wait till it arrives.
I had been tempted byt the sony 5 inch that fitted in the pocket, but due to the earthquake not many arround and they could not garentee if I brought it in from accross the big pond (USA) the soft ware would allow me to down load. Their also seemed to be on reading that the down load was not for the duh. So I went with kindle.......as I have and account or if not you log in the country you are in............my darling geeek will probably look after it for me.

Roberta,  Dave and I each have a Kindle 3G and we love them.  We have a leather cover for each of ours and they are sturdy. Reminds me of a hardback book cover.  The covers were about $30 each.  You will love the Kindle! Dee

I don't have a Kindle exactly, but do have the app on my phone and tablet PC and I love it.  You might check Ebay for a case - I bought one for my tablet for 11.00 as opposed to 39.00 from any store and it's leather.  Free Amazon books are the best.

I had the Nook by Barnes and Noble for about a year and a half until I got the iPad and Randy decided I might want to sell the nook (he then found someone who wanted to buy it without me having a chance to say NO!!!). I love e-readers and I love the iPad for reading, just like the size of the nook or kindle better. I think a metal case might be nice if it is light weight. I had one, made by a company called JavoEdge, that was pretty light. It was their Flip Case. It didn't add much weight at all to the nook. You are going to love reading on the Kindle. I rarely read any books now that aren't electronic.

Or is there more than one book in it ? Is there such a thing as having all the Harry Potter books even the last one to the end in one of those electric books. Sorry I'm such a dummy. ELECTONIC               You can have what you want on them, so all HP books would be easy, depends on the memory size. The Kindle 3 is wi fi plus 3G if you want it. I researched and it was for Australia either a Sony or a KIndle. Don't ask about the down load part yet, but some of the others may be able to fill you in. You down load from in KIndles case Amazon and I believe you can down load even them from other sites.
Do you use Audio books as its I suppose the same theory but you read it on a small screen, some have audio capabilities to .

I love books and have tons of  the regular kind, but with not having the use of my left hand or arm it is extremely difficult holding one, so the kindle/Streak is great for me, I can hold it in one hand or balance it on the arm of my chair and it works great.  My next gadget purchase is called the handeholder - http://www.handeholder.com/.  The handeholder is for anyone who owns an ereader, Kindle, or tablet  and it's made in Michigan.

I love my Ipad for e-books and almost everything else.  So handy to carry around and saves me a ton of packing space or handbag space since I read so quickly I can easily snaffle a couple of books a day if I have a few hours spare on holiday.  I had never heard of the Kindle, sorry.

Durability question.  I tend to read in bed and as I have aged it is not unusual to nod off while doing so.  How fragile are these ebooks?   I did hear apparently the Library of Congress is supposed to load a lot of books in their library as ebooks.

Reading in bed was my biggest fear! I had my Nook in a cover and it wasn't a problem. There was enough padding that I didn't worry too much about it. The iPad, I'm a little more concerned about since I just have the Smart Cover and not as much padding.
The library here should have e-books available in the next few weeks and I can't wait. You can also get a card from the Philadelphia Free library ( I think that is the name of it) for $15 a year and they have tens of thousands of ebooks there. It took me a little while to make the transition, but I am glad I did. I'll still read a normal book, and enjoy it, but ebooks are just so much easier.
