Wacky was having breathing problems on wednesday nite and fussing a lot. He seems to have settled down since then, but I am hoping he last long enough to be with us for Dachshund club of America shows in WI.... I am heading down sunday and Merion is coming down on thursday. I have been hoping he would make it to the show because I know our Doxie club members will fuss all over him big time, and am sure he will love that!!
We both know 17 years is not a spring chicken but he is my Great grand doggy cuz my twinkie angel was his real granny(he says NO WAY...she is MY GIRLFRIEND).
So please send some doxie rays because we KNOW they help some of our much loved family members!
Rays from Oklahoma how about a humidifier might help with the breathing?
If anything their air is too moist. underground springs in that mobile home park. I did remind her to turn her air filter on full blast. I know my asthma has been flaring some due to the trees starting to bud and weeds gearing up!! I was sort of afraid when she said he was having breathing problems I was almost scared to ask what she meant. When Twinkie was about 12 or so the night before I took her to vet for heartworm test, I SWORE it sounded like a person with pnuemonia struggling to breath...that horrid raspy breath. BUT it was not her breath....it was her heart making that MUCH noise. vet said she might just keel over sitting next to me on couch!! But we gave her a blood pressure med and after about a month I only heard her heart if I put head on her chest!! But that was not what wacky has happening.
Sister has gotten him moving around more the last day or so, and I think that is helping. Maybe he just was not drinking enough water! Moving around reminded him to drink water. Anyway he is still OK.
We are relieved to know Zack is feeling better. He is at a grand old age and all that attention and admiration he deserves at the show will surely do him good too. Perhaps allergies to the pollen and poor air quality were putting him under some extra strain - I know they make me wheezy - hope he has a great Summer.
Take it easy, Zacky. Hope you continue feeling fit N frisky.
sending fit and frisky rays for Zack!
Well Zack is still getting around some. Merion and I were at National Dachshund Club of America national shows in WI this past week. Zack got to ride around in the basket of my electric cart! The hotel reserved one for me because their room layouts are spread out all over. My mobility is really bad right now, so that cart was a life safer!! So we put a pillow topped by a bunch of pieces of fleece in the basket and he got to ride around in it. For a while we even left him in it in the hotel room. He does not move around a lot so it was perfectly safe, he would not crawl out or anything. But he even got to go for a "walk" outside. Of course during that he got fussed over by others at the show, due to his age!! Many were commenting that having the other 3 doxies make it to 15 1/2 or so and then him getting up to 17 sure was great!! Shows were great and I really liked getting drafted as a dog holder!!! Although the last one I was holding was an 8 month old standard B&T and he was a really big boy!! Sweetie too!!
awww, I am sure he just loved all that attention. to Wacky Zack.
So great to hear he still enjoys being a star at his age, you are both great models of human-doxie buddy!
Sorry I missed the original post.....but sounds like he got all the attention he DESERVED !!!!
I know we are really blessed having had Zeke, Zelda, twinkie and Zack all last past 15(i consider 15 1/2 past 15) and now Zack is 17, but it still seems way too short a time to have them to love!!
I am not sure why it seemed so important to me that he make it to DCA, but it was like his Granny made it to the last one, and wanted him to make it to this one!
I will also admit that Twinkie Angel gave me a few real scares before I lost her, including the nite she got in a snit or something and came out to the living room to sleep. The scare there was she laid with her head hangin over the side of the bed in such a weird position I thought she was gone, and it took way too long to wake her up! The other time was when she somehow managed to scrunch between mattress and wall under what really was about a 6" high pile of fleece and blankets. That time I ran all over the house about 3am looking for her, and then was afraid she had managed to scooch above my head and had somehow gotten under the bed frame. Thankfully she managed to end up upside down with her legs in the air, with only about enough space for her body. I have no idea how she moved from the bottom of the bed up to by my head, but she had. I found her after I panic'ed and was yanking all the bedding off the bed, planning to try to shift the whole bed and frame. she was really squished in there, and also the little twerp was still sleeping away while I was running around yelling for her(I know, dumb when I knew she heard very little but still needed to do it).
