That seems to be the line of reasoning for Zeke's latest behavior. We have a Silver Maple in our backyard. At this time of year, it drops its "helicopters"...the seeds that float down in circles. The Silver Maple is pretty big, towering well over our house and is estimated to be about 125 years old. Needless to say, it drops a LOT of "helicopters"
Enter Zeke. Zeke has decided that these helicopters make for a pretty good snack. He walks around the deck snarfing them up, but only eating the actual seed and discarding the rest of the "helicopter". If he ends up digesting some of the helicopter, well, it happens. This is a relatively new behavior for him. He had eaten them in the past, but never with such relish. I'm thinking he sees the gray squirrels eating them, so either 1) since he is gray, too (technically blue) he can eat them or 2) he is trying to get into the mind of a squirrel to do a better job of catching them. I'm still not sure which theory is more plausible, since Zeke's hunting skills are laughable. Zeke has zero stealth, preferring the "Here I come, I'm going to get you" approach. Which, of course, the various squirrels, etc. simply scoot out of his way, usually by climbing a tree or fence, leaving Zeke only able to bark indignantly at the backyard invaders...something he does exceptionally well.
Maybe he figures if he eats them all the blasted squirrels will go away!! :apls: :2funny:
That is just so darn cute!! I was thinking that he thinks they must be a treat since the squirrels love them so much!!
