I took a tumble yesterday while doing a bulletin board after school. I landed on my tush, got a rug burn on my right elbow, and did something funky to my left knee - probably overextended it, as Brenda (Mocha's mom) said she thought was the case. I am not sure how long I lay there, but rolled over to my stomach. It could have been 10 minutes. By using desks, I was able to support myself to get my things - by then, I think it was around 4:20. By hopping along and holding onto walls and doors, I was able to get to my car about 5 minutes later. I got home, and managed to get in the house, get the dachsies outside, and grab a soda before collapsing on the couch. I knew I couldn't get into a drugstore to get a knee bandage or a cane, so I put in a call to Brenda, who came and looked and asked questions before heading to the drugstore for me. I had an uncomfortable evening - it feels like my knee gives way to the inside, but the bandage does give it better supprt, and I am navigating with the cane much better. I had a 600 mg ibuprofen left from some dental surgery, so I took one before bed, stuck a pillow under the left knee, and slept pretty well. The next few days could be interesting, since the dachsies expect me to hop to, and if I am sitting, they naturally plop and jump all over me - including on the left leg!
Ouchie!!! That sounds very sore, poor you! Tris and Ivy send you healing snuggles and we hope you have a quick recovery xxxx
OUCH!!! Take some drugs and take it easy, put on a good movie and snuggle with the dogs.
I saw a doctor my school district sent me to, yesterday afternoon. 11 x-rays were taken - 3 on right elbow, three on left knee, 3 on left ankle (which was swollen by noon yesterday), and two of my spine in the lower back area. Guess who has scoliosis? I didn't, before taking Fosamax and its generics for five years! Anyhow, I got a shot of Toradol, and pills for anti-inflamation and muscle relaxation - that one is for bedtime. I did not tear or break anything - whew! - and I have a followup next Monday. I am ok to work. I would look fairly normal if the swelling would go down a bit.
OMG Woman ! Always keep your cell phone close !!! Sending tons of rayz to you....... NO CLIMBING !!!!
Now you know not to climb alone................kidding aside take it easy. Next time remember a bag or bags of peas, on for 20 mins every other hour and keep off it as much as possible. How do I know...........my family bought me the cold pack things for the freezer as I'm always into trouble.
The mosters must be having a field day someone sitting down at our height. Good to hear they gave you something to sleep.
Keep us posted

Ouchie!! I hope you are feeling better today.
I feel fine, but bruises in very ugly oranges, purples, reds, and blues have popped out in numerous places, and today, the swelling in my knee and ankle was huge, so I went back to the doctor who put me off work until at least Tuesday, since I am to keep my left knee and ankle elevated higher than my heart and ice it as I have been.
Did a Orthopedic doctor check your x-rays or a regular doctor ?
Example: My heel was really hurting went to my regular doctor he said it was plantar ( fasitis ) misspelled kept hurting & hurting was trying to work went back to the doctor.Finely did a x-ray said it was a heel spur I asked to go see a orthopedic doctor finely got in about a month later had a half way healed heel fracture. Tried to work that way the whole time worked as a Nurses aide on a Orthopedic floor.
Rays & Hugs to you hope you feel better soon.
Well, I got to see my own x-rays, and I know where my heel spur is - got to strap that foot in a boot for several weeks and I stretched out the tendon on the advice of my podiatrist years ago. I saw all my affected areas, and my bones looked good, except for my spine - the bones there show osteoporosis, which I did not have prior to taking Fosamax. I do not hurt much except where the bruising is, but my x-rays have already been read by an orthopedic doctor - she is sports injury along with workman's compensation, and she palpated my ankle, calf, and knee to confirm what she was seeing in my x-rays.
How are you doing today, Julia? I guess I missed this when it happened. Sorry 'bout that. Hope the weenies have been fantastic nurses. Take it easy how, ya hear?
Hi, Sandy! I've been to the workman's comp doctor 4 times now, and have another check at the end of June. I was actually able to bend my left knee back at about 70 degrees this morning to put my jeans on - and don't laugh - you don't know how hard it is to get dressed when you can barely move a bruised and very swollen knee and ankle! I am still taking anti-inflammatory meds and my muscle relaxer at night. I got a little stressed yesterday (the day after Open House), when my principal mentioned that my work area around my desk was pretty messy - yes, it was, but the rest of the room was neatly prepped, and I am not supposed to be up and about when I am able to sit. The doctor had intended me to be out more than three days, but I don't like to be absent, and I elevate and ice my knee and ankle as soon as I get home. I did the best I could - and I was there to chat with parents - which they thought was very important.
Sorry to hear what a bad time you are having. I hope you are feeling better now, Julia. At least if this had to happen, it happened close to the school year end. Tell the wiens to take extra care of you. :bandaid:

Take care of your self Julia. Some people can be such idiots :idiot: about mobility issues.
Just do what you can and don't push it too hard.
Merion & the ZZ's
At a wild guess here also, I bet your doctor was not expecting you to be lifting stuff(and walking with it!!).
I would have been real tempted to look back at the principal and say, well since this is a workers comp injury, if I took off as long as the doctor wanted me to, then I would be paid workers comp for that time off. Also if I was not here for the open house, who would have been covering MY ROOM?
You are right to be as careful as you can with this. Too many people get guilted by their employer's into going back to work too early or working outside their medical restrictions!!Somehow the idiots do not understand that this can delay recovery, cause additional damage and even result in added surgery due to the extra stress to the body!!
Be careful and do not push yourself past what you can reasonably do without adding to your injury!
I hear you too on the joys of dressing!! If the knee is barely bending sometimes it is sort of like trying to toss a lasso around your foot while it is wiggling around!! Stepping into clothes sounds easy, but it can be a challenge managing to get the right leg into the right leg instead of the left! (I have gotten very cranky sometimes when that happens!!
I used an electric cart loaned to me by the hotel that the DCA shows were at, and I got really ticked when told that my cart was in the way of them wheeling a serving cart through. (no problem with me moving it as long as the idiots don't try shoving theirs thru as soon as about 1/4 of the needed space is cleared(BUT I had to jockey the cart back and forth to get it out of the way...so them blocking where i had just moved from did not work too well. Lucky for the other idiot who managed to stand about a foot and a half behind the cart was far enough over for me to notice and snarl at him.....I can't back this up with you standing in the way!! Bottom line is they don't think when they do those stupid things, but lucky for that guy I am highly skilled at looking behind me when trying to back a cart up or he woulda had some really sore feet at least!!
