We took her into see the vet as she had a really messy poo this morning and a little one mid afternoon plus threw up, she has pancreatitis saw th blood workup print out, so they have kept her in at least overnight. I have read the riot act re her back and as they do not have anyone over night. Jane the vet is on call and goes into check up and we have asked she ring us. Amy was a little dehydrated, so hence they are keeping her in, I'm going to ask for tests mid afternoon and if she is hydrated I want her home.
Yesterday she had a pigs ear, and it was the only thing diffrent to normal. Ollie being the little %^$ that he is, is lapping up the attention. I hate leaving her their alone as I know she is not good alone, but its for the best.

GOODNESSS! This does not sound good! Is she in pain? Can this be treated? What's the prognosis? Keep us up to date.

Tons and Tons of rayz and prayers for Wee Amy. :comfort:
 she is home with mommy very soon !
Please keep us posted.....
Many rays coming wee Amy's way!!! Zoe has a sensitive digestive system and pig ears are a no no for her. She has had cholitis a couple of times from things that momma now knows she can't have. Please keep us posted!!!
Are there really any people in this world who never have any problems with their dogs health? :verdict: At least you have your own bench to sit on at the vets now. Jessie would get pancreatitis it was no fun many prayers for Amy and you both. As you know Hallie has a very touchy tummy too and yesterday morning she had one of her horrible tummy aches and was vomiting and has mucous poops. The only difference at all has been a tiny bite of broccoli the day before. I've seen something as small as that set her off before. I think you better give those pigs ears back to the pigs maybe... :thinik:
Hope she is home with you soon and all over this. Give her a hug for us.
Poor baby. Hilde and I are sending some rays for a quick and complete recovery for Amy. Do keep us posted!!!

Any new news on Miss Amy? :comfort:
Jane the vet called last night as she was on call and said she was good. When I called this morning she had not poo'd or thrown up, I was upset she had widdled as she is so good at home adn lets mum know she has to go out, but it would have fell on deaf ears. So they were giving her some oral fluid with electolytes and glucose and if she was not sick they would give her some solid non fat food. The Vet nurse said Jane (vet) wants her to stay in to night again. I will talk to her late afternoon and see how she has gone and if she has no drip in I would rather her home to-night and even if I take her back to-morrow for the day.
We have decided not to go see her, as during her back surgery it only got her upset and unsettled. I just want her home and her big brother is starting to get soookie lala. When I came home and Nick opened the front door he dived to car to see if she was there.

Never understood why vets want to keep the Fur Kids over night in most cases no one is there to keep an eye on them I always worry about fires and such.Yes can have a fire at home too but at least they might have a chance to get out yes the fire departments always try to save as many as possible. I want my Fur Kid at home so I can watch them as much monies as vets charge now days they need to have a tech at least spend the night and keep an eye on the sick Fur Kids.Have to pay more monies need more services that is the way I see it.
update 430pm our time 19 April.
Jane the Vet called. I'm happy as I did a bit of reading this afternoon waiting for her call. Jane said her lipase had fallen from 5600 to 2900 and ref range is less than 1800. All other chemistries were good. Little madam did not like the low fat food they offered so they are thawing some lean chicken and beef mince, which is the main reason they will not let her home as they want to make sure she does not bring it up and is OK for 12 hours. Jane says she is pretty sure she will be home to-morrow afternoon, they are leaving the drip in as long as possible.
I hate leaving her in but I suppose it is better than a relapse.

Sounds like Wee Amy is on the mend ! LOL at making them fix her something SHE wants to eat !!! It is always so hard when they are not at home, but she is at the best place right now to get her well. Sending tons of rayz and prayers down under for our Amy !
That is wonderful news! She may not want to come home what with her personal chef and able to order anything she wants off the menu. She sounds well on the mend. Do you think it was the pigs ear that did it? I agree it's sooo hard to leave them but sometimes a day of it is worth risk of relapse. Hang in there Amy will be home soon!
Wonderful news! We were the same way with Penny when she had back surgery...we did not go see her which killed me, but was so the best since it just upset her.
Dee Dee Jane (vet) said that it could have been grumbling along for a while and the Pigs Ear tipped the scales or as they have a fairly low fat diet the pigs ear may have done it. But now I need to find recipes for low or no fat biscuits or treats. Liver treats are out now and so are the chewies, I'm going to buy a kiddies electric toothbrush as that is now going to be an issue to keep their teeth really clean.

Everything gets harder and more complicated as you get older, both dogs and people. When I had to change Hallie to a low fat diet, I started making her cookies and she does really well on them. (I know....MY cooking? And she does well??).
I bake skinned chicken breasts. Then I cook up a bunch of brown rice. (sometimes I add some oatmeal for variety). Then I add different things for different batches, canned no salt added green beans, pumpkin, blueberries, cooked carrots. Put it all in a food processer until it's ground up fine (might have to add a little water if it balls up). Then flatten it out in a greased (low fat spray) rectangle cake pan or bread loaf pan. Like you are spreading out pizza dough, clear to the edges. About a half inch deep is good, too thin and it gets hard to crunch (unless they like that), too thick and it stays sticky. I cut them up into big bars and freeze them and take them out as I need them. If you try it you will probably come up with better ways. She loves them.
I hope Amy feels better and better and that you have her home again with you before you know it. Poor baby girl.
Here is a good web site for dog treats some are good with good ingredients some not so good you just have to pick & chose the ones you like. http://www.bullwrinkle.com/index.html?Assets/Recipes/Recipes.htm~indexmain Happy cooking.
DeeDee - you sure have that right...as they get older..... it isn't as easy as throwing a 1/4 cup of kibble in the bowl and having them hoover it up and go on their merry way !!! I need to get back to making treats....thanks for the recipe and link to others !!!
(LOL - ex-hubby always asked if they were dog snacks or people snacks, when they were cooling on the counter !!!)
Just have to share use to work at a hospital I also made dog treats a nurse i worked with wanted me to bring some home made dog treats to her.Forgot why now but I had the wrapped up well Had the nurses name on them she wanted them for her Min Pin I put them in the refrigerator at work in the Nurses lounge. Well the nurse never got them someone took them and ate them of course it was all human food but the nurse & I made it well known some one stole the dog treats.
I quit feeding pig ears, figured my dogs didn't need all that leather going thru their systems. Cooked lean chicken and rice mixed together really helps my boys when they have the squirts. I hope Amy feels better soon.
I am catching up on this and trying to get over the shock of reading a recipe on Dee Dee's post! She even sounded like she knew how to cook! I will have to try these sometime for Schatzi. She will love them, I'm sure.
Teresa, you 'bout made me spit water all over the monitor. :2funny:
How did I miss this post? Well, sure am glad Wee Amy is feeling better. I need to read more often.
