Porky Pie and I are both thrilled to see some sun today!! I can hardly get him to come inside when its time. We have to be fair and allow our neighbor's dog some outside time too, and he and Porky do NOT get along. Unfortunately, our neighbors don't understand the concept of of leashing their dog so he runs loose and often comes into our part of the yard. :doah: Anyway, we are planning some serious walkies this afternoon and tomorrow. We want at least 2 good walks before the snow comes back Sunday and Monday. We also wanted to share our front yard views with those not on facebook. I can't get over how beautiful it is!!!!!! We are soo happy here. The only thing I would change is that there are so many MEAN strays around our neighborhood, we have to drive to grandma's to go for walks. We park in her driveway and walk a paved pathway across from her house. The views are amazing from there too, and we see deer a lot!! We do find it better to stand and watch them quietly and then turn around and go the other way. Porky Pie says to tell the "worrier" aunties that we don't see any bears or mountain lions on this path and we carry "da spray" at all times to protect ourselves.
I think my little guy is getting arthritis. We have noticed some stiffness in his legs when he first gets up in the mornings. Once he walks around for an hour or so, he is fine, but we have him on some treats that aid joint health to try and keep it from getting worse. Can you believe he's almost a 6 year old?! (April 9th is his barkday!) It amazes me to think about that. It seems like yesterday I was desperately trying to keep him from chewing up everything in sight!! His C-A-T brother Petey is 6 today!!! He no longer lives with us, but is being cared for by a friend in Nebraska. I sure miss him, but he is so much happier living on a farm with lots of mice and birds to chase.
We are headed back to Nebraska at the end of the month to celebrate my mom and my grandma's birthday. Also Porky and I are very excited to meet a new addition to the family. Justin's parents got a Corgi pup named Buzz last weekend. He is quite the character and sounds like a really sweet little guy. And of course, we will have some dachshund wrestling with Bandit (my mom's dachshund) while we are visiting. Well, gotta go. Hope you enjoy our pictures. :) I'm including one of my nephew's first birthday as well.
What a gorgeous view you have! Awesome! Spring is nice but we don't like the allergies it brings Hallie gets real itchy in the spring also. Poor Porky he has arthritis already? He's so young! I hope the supplements help him.
I hear you about dang people who let their dogs run loose especially when they are mean. I never walk Hallie around here either there aren't too many dogs loose here but it only takes one. We always drive to my uncles and walk in his gated community. We are always out and about anyway and she goes with me everywhere so we take advantage of good places to walk then too. How cool to see deer at your Grandmothers.
That is awful too that you have to deal with a mean dog in your yard. I'd have a nervous breakdown! Is there a way to secure it so he can't get in?
Would love to see pictures of Buzz he sounds like a doll!
Dee Dee~ I'm not sure about the arthritis thing. I just noticed he is pretty stiff in the mornings. However, now that its warmer, he doesn't seem to be doing it. :dontknow: So it was probably just a cold weather, "I don't want to get out of bed" thing. :2funny: I'll be sure and post some pictures of Buzz when I get back, but that won't be till May sometime. He is really cute though. He is black, tan, and white.
:thinik: It's a different mentality of dog ownership in your area. The book "Merle's Door" is about life in a community in Wyoming with no fences and no leashes. The dogs live a very different life from how urban and suburban dogs live today. It's hearkens back to our childhood, the 50's and 60's, when kids and dogs woke up, ate breakfast and went outside to play.
I don't know how to address the issue with Porky. I just read "What Animals Want From Humans" by Temple Grandin. It's a very good book and well worth the read. How to acclimate yourselves to a whole different dog-owning paradigm is fraught with tons of anxiety, which would communicate right down the leash to Porky, so that won't help at all. I think you just have to think about Porky's needs. Maybe some grapestake fencing that could go up easily will give you at least some area you and he can relax in together.
Auntie Keren :sunny:
We finally have the sun here again, too, in SC!! Last week, we had just a little bit of sun on Tuesday. Other than that, it was all clouds and rain. I'm mostly disappointed because this is the only time we normally have spring temperatures and I sure don't want to lose these days to clouds and rain. Before long, it will be in the upper 70's and low-mid 80's and I will not be happy. This week is going to be a sunny week, so everyone around here will be happy-well, except the allergy sufferers. They are all having trouble. The pollen is flying like crazy!
Great pictures! My family and I just got home from Gatlinburg Tennessee and had a great time! Waiting for snail mail address! :thumb:
Kelly, I will be sending you an email with our new address today!! Sorry I got busy and totally forgot to send it to you! :doah: Hope you had a great trip.
