Title: Weekend Short Stories with the Zs
Post by: David C. on March 20, 2011, 07:57:38 PM
Just a few short stories with the Zs from the last couple of days:

Friday night was a very warm night after being in the high 70s during the day.   The spring peepers were out, along with many toads.   One of them camped out on our front porch.  When I took the Zs for a walk, Zeke blew right past it, but Zora seemed very piqued by the visitor.  Zora's maternal instinct began kicking in and she wanted to "mother" it.  I yanked her away, as toads have an alkali coating on their skin that can make dachsies sick (I found this out the hard way with Rudy & Max).   Zeke seems to have no interest in reptiles as he practically ran over a second toad on the sidewalk.  Only the toad jumping out of the way at the last second saved it from being run over.

Zora has begun to pick up some of Rudy-angels mannerism (or maybe I'm paying more attention!).   One of them was when you would talk to Rudy in a conversational tone, his eyes would remain transfixed on yours, but he'd go into a sit, with his front half frozen and his back half "walking into" a sit.   Well, Zora started doing that, too.    She also will roll over in your lap so you can scratch her chest.  When you do, her eyes go into a squint that can only be translated as "ahhhh"...again, another Rudy-ism.

One of the things I like about dachshunds is when they do something I call "turreting".   That's when they are walking in one direction and their heads are turned 90 degrees to the direction they are walking.  This seems more common in dachshunds, and their long bodies seem to amplify this effect.   It's double noticeable when you have two (or more) dachshunds in trail.   They look like a line of four legged battleships.  The Zs would do this when they'd pass a house where a dog was barking inside.

David we add the double take to the turreting as that usually means "I've seen something".
The talking I wondr if its and age thing or frustration that their thick headed owners don't get the gestures first given. Amy has really started to animate mooing and humping and groooling when she obviously wants something but cannot get understood.
Olivers solutuin is ti jump and whine at it.

Sure sounds like fun was had by you and the Z's.  Hilde does the same thing when I talk to her, only she moves her head back and forth, also.  Loved the warm weather, I am soooooooooooo over winter.
