Title: Zeke & Zora, Police K-9s
Post by: David C. on March 12, 2011, 10:40:02 AM
I took the Zs on one of my "sweeps" of the local stream valley.  I haven't taken them in the wood very often, and at first, both seemed very unsure of themselves.   Zeke, however, quickly took to the new task with considerable zeal.  Zora, a bit less so.   Both seemed to enjoy getting muddy, dirty and poking their snouts at all kind of new smells.

Our sweep was fruitful.   We checked some previous trouble spots, including a "target range" and homeless encampment that were cleared on a previous sweep and found no new activity.  We found a previously unreported, but abandoned, homeless encampment, complete with two hand axes left on site.   We also found an area of the woods that someone cleared.  I'm not 100% sure what that was about, but we'll keep an eye on it.   We also checked another area where there had been alcohol consumption, and that was clear.  We also found some additional pellet shooting in a different part of the woods.

I went back without the Zs to grab the axes.  Last thing we need are some neighborhood kids to find those and start using them on each other!

The total distance walked was about 2 miles.   The Zs were bushed when they got back!   I had to clean them up from all the mud, water and dirt.   I think they knew they did something important.   Zeke's head seemed to be held just a bit higher when he got back home.   Now, K-9 X-Ray Zero (their radio call sign) are getting a well deserved nap!

I'm glad the Z's were on the job.  Everyone needs safe woods to walk through.  Good kidz!

Sounds as if they need to come to your Auntie Roberta's for a few weeks of bush bashing and hill running, plus lizard hunting so they end up looking like this.

Ya know there are times I think dachshunds should be a a different "group" at dog shows!!!

They work just as hard as any dogs in the working group!!  Plus I bet those in the working group are not as skilling at being nurses to their Hoomans!!
