Well we got our plane tickets for our visit to Austin Texas on April 6th thru 10th to check it all out and have my hubby meet with this guy he will be working with. Then we will come back and then Chris will drive our truck back there and start working to make some money and I will stay here and get packed up not sure when we will be doing this all. I hope Romeo will be happy with the move. I am going to have to give that baby of mine a tranqulizer  :thinik: though because he loves to go but hates to ride and that is going to be a longggggggggggggggg drive.
hugs and love laura and romeo
:xfinger:
Good Luck on the job and hope all goes well with the trip.
Someone in a store I was in this weekend said they use a calming collar on their dog who always gets carsick and it helps to settle him down so he doesn't.

Good luck with the job. Start taking Romeo out daily in the car so he gets used to it. we travel for periods of 5 hours and then let them out "ON LEASH" for a pit stop and if we have a picnic, in the car see if he likes to see out as that helps some others like Amy likes her crate so she can snooze. If he makes a scene ignore it its like thunder he plays up ets what he wants etc. Just make sure he has something of his and you to snuggle in.

Oliver and Amy here, wez sleep till we go through towns and when we stop, we pop our heads up and bark a the people in the cars next to us at the lights hehehe everybody is shocked a the loud barks from uz small wee ones and usually think we are cute.
Ib my auntie Janies truck she had the whole back seat up to doggy height so we cannot get out da windows but we can see, this is me getting a ride home and I was allowed in da front seat till mum gpened the gate.
Best riding on the highway is in a crate it is safer you can also give Rescue Remedy about a week ahead of time usually calms them just give it until things are settled down again.Helps to have a tag of where you are going and a tag with a cell phone number if you have a cell phone on you . Also very important to have like Home Again Microchip in your dog just in case he was to get away from you. Now before the trip teach wait he can not get out of the car with out your permission keeps him from jumping out maybe getting hit by a car. Will he go potty on a leash some dogs will go some will so important to know. Also take some of the water he is use to drinking, water from a different area can give them diarrhea. We use to drive from Oklahoma to Iowa every summer with dogs in tow. When you get to where you are going to be staying if you have home waterleft add some new water o the old water just like you do in changing foods.Makes for a more smooth transition for the dog.Have a safe trip, good luck.
My Bonnie is exactly like your Romeo. Loves the idea of a Goferaride. Dislikes the actual ride and will cry and cry at first but eventually sort of settles down. Bonnie wears a "seat belt" that is attached to the human seat belt. It works very nicely for us. Her "seat belt" is attached to her harness. The crate is the BEST and SAFEST idea though.
Welcome to Texas !!! You might check with your vet as to what calmer would work best. Keep us posted !
Porky rides in his crate in the back seat. When he starts whining we turn on "lullaby" music and don't respond to him verbally. He is usually whining because he wants to sit on my lap. We make frequent stops to stretch his legs and make sure we have plenty of water. He is a good little traveller most of the time and we usually don't hear a peep out of him until he has to potty or if he thinks we stopped and left him in the car. The more you "baby" them when they whine or bark in the car, the more they do it. Just like a little kid, its usually just an attention thing. Its hard, but unless you think he needs water or a potty break, just ignore it and he will eventually quiet down. I would take him on car rides as much as you can until you go on your big trip so he can get used to it more. Good luck with your move!!!
ask yer vet to prescribe a few 5mg valium tablets. Zuzu weighs 14 pounds and 1/8 a tablet --that is one tablet broken into four and then HALF of one of those quarters does the trick for two or three hours. She is a little zoned for the first hour, but then is herself and calm.
If they prescribe 1 mg--even better.
Im with papbouv on this one. Letting the dogs ride free in the car is just a bad idea. Loose Dogs get hurt very badly even in a low speed crash. Harnessed and strapped in (never by a collar) for dogs that ride well in a car. Airline style crates for those dogs that hate to ride in the car.
Mr. Wilson rides great with his Hug-A-Dog harness while strapped into his booster seat.
Ms. Lucy must have her airline kennel when going bye-bye.
Thank you all so much for all the advise and well wishes. Romeo is so spoiled rotten and we never go very far with him and he sits on my lap because hubby will drive....he usually sits in the middle in the truck there is a middle thing he sits on but then he will get on my lap and want to look out the window and I roll it down then he doesn't want that anymore then he is back and forth it is bad....I have never put him in a crate he would hate that and the seat belt stuff and harness he can't stand those he hates when I say we are going for walks and I put that on him to take him on walks he hates that he will try and go and hide......not sure yet what we will do have to talk to hubby about what to do we still have some time. Thank you all again for everything please keep the advise coming if someone has something new or something to add I will so much apprecaite it. Love you all

I use a barricade that I put up between the back seat and the cargo hatch in my Subaru Outback. It turns the rear cargo into a crate. Of course, that kills your cargo carrying capacity for any kind of long trips. Zeke and Zora tend to bounce back and forth, checking out the world. I like when they perch on the back window and stare at the driver behind us. Sometimes Zeke will "alert" bark. I imagine if he talked it would sound something like this:
Zeke: "Tail gunner to pilot...bandits at 6 O'Clock"
Zora: "That's not a bandit, that's a Honda. Get a grip Zeke"
Zora: <sniff>, "Uh oh, we're getting to that place where they chop our toes off and stick needles in us"
Zeke: "Stop worrying, they give me LOTS of attention..."
Zora: "...and treats. Still I do NOT like my toes chopped!"
Zeke: "Look another dog! Woof, woof, woof, woof!"
Zora: "Zeke, you are SUCH a male dachshund"
Zeke: "Why thank you, Zora"
