Merion & the ZZ's
Semi-truck full of rays going up North to Miss Hallie. Is she having tummy troubles again? Poor baby. AND POOR MOMMY!
Rays are helping she is doing a bit better today, still not at all herself though. I really am not sure what is wrong either her tummy or her back but as time goes on I'm leaning more toward her back. Maybe some of both? It happened pretty fast, she has been feeling great for weeks (it's been wonderful, other than she had some poop issues for a while but seemed to feel fine) then I went to the dentist Wednesday and had to leave her home and when I got back she was moving slow and hurting. A couple of clues made me think tummy but now I'm thinking more back.
We have been setting up camp on the bed and I've gathered all the work I can do off the computer and we pretty much spend the whole day in there, that way I can work and she has her Mom right there and I can keep a close eye on her. We have quite a bit of snow so several times a day you can see me carrying her out to the poopatorium in my jammies and barn boots.
Thanks so much for the good thoughts, so scary when these things hit them and you aren't sure what it is or where it's going. But she has taken a turn for the better.
Rayz, rayz, and more rayz on the way for Hallie BB and her mommy :comfort:
We have been thinking of you. How are you both today?
Thank you! She still worries me this morning BUT about 10 minutes ago she walked into the other room and I could hear her squeaking one of her babies! (I always run out to tell her how good she is when she does that so we call it the Mommy doorbell as I always answer her "call"). She hasn't done that since she started to feel bad. And when I took her out to the poopatorium a bit ago she got silly and kicked up a storm and grinned at me, so I'm defiitely seeing my little girl coming back! I'm going to rest her for a few days yet which isn't too hard with all the snow out there but am feeling the most relieved since it started.
Rays and prayers from us down under, try and get some rest, we know its hard but she needs you alert...............

Well a few more Rays & Hugs can't hurt may be a touch of Arthritis it loves everyone and with snow and being cold Mr. Arthritis can be a pain.Glad to hear she is feeling better so hope she will continue to feel better.Patches Buddy & papbouv
I'm so glad to hear Hallie is almost 100% back to normal!! It worries us so much when our babies don't do well... they can't talk and tell us what bother them. Sending more rayz for good measure.
I'm so happy to read a good Hallie report! Keep ringing that doorbell, sweetheart.
Crud, poor Amy, I am glad she is on the mend too just hate it when they scare us like that.
Papbouv I wondered about that I haven't been lucky enough to have my last 2 kids get old enough to get arthritis so haven't been through it, would it come on that fast? She had been acting like a puppy for weeks (which had been wonderful! And we had a lot of cold weather during that time too so I don't think the cold was it) very spry and happy, it went from that to very slow and not wanting to walk around much in a matter of 2 hours. Now it has slowly gotten better again, wouldn't arthritis always be there to a point and not hit that fast, or would it?
Thanks for the extra rays Vicki, we take them all til she's 100% they are definitely working!
Thanks Aunt Sandy and Bonnie, LOL she's really doing much better yet! She has not only been ringing the doorbell but also knocking on the door (she BARKS orders at me!) which means she's feeling better. She didn't even want to bark when she was slowed down I imagine the force of a bark was uncomfortable for her. She has improved again today so hopefully this was a glitch and we'll get back to normal soon. :headbang:
Dee Dee, I hope Hallie is still feeling better.... Zoe has arthritis in her left shoulder and she can be fine ...and acting like a puppy for weeks and then all of a sudden I can look up and she is limping....I have her on Rimadyl as needed....Don't like to give it to her....but...I give her one and the next day she is fine. May not limp again for 4 weeks, etc. or more. It was difficult to diagnose as she also had a "sore spot" in her neck...a disc issue....but after several months of Dr. visits to Dr. Haverkos, her neck is fine. Usually I notice the limp if we are having a weather change...extreme....or if major storms come into town. Once that is past, she is her old self again. I hope and pray you and Hallie are both doing well.
Thanks for that Cheryl, I have not gone through arthritis with a dog before as I lost my Fred at 6 and Jessie at 10 and they hadn't developed it. So I don't know how it can present. That sounds just like what is happening. I should probably get some rimadyl to have on hand. So far I've used tramadol but only a couple of times like you say you hate to give them stuff unless they really need it. And tramadol knocks her out. I hope Zoe's isn't too bad, it's so strange talking about older dog issues like arthritis with her and Hallie, how/when did they become seniors?????
Hallie is doing great now again though thanks she's my silly funny little girl again!!
we give them SAchas blend daily, and it has helped, but it takes about a month to bild up. Plus as I have arthritis we work on the principle Ollie will not be to good as his dysplasia plays up, I think it has a tad of arthritis in it now.
Roberta
If you do not want to use the Remadyl which I would not want to use only if I have to I read up on it when I had my Bouvier Jake just Google it. I can try Organic Apple Cider Vinegar you just add a tiny bit to there food then work your way up to about a teaspoon maybe two since it is Organic & Holstic it takes awhile to kick in maybe a month or two.It really helps the Arthritis had a 80+ year old man come to the hospital a ole farmer said he never had Arthritis because he drank AVC everyday. Also allot of information on Mothers Apple Cider Vinegar just google it can't hurt any thing rather try that than Remadyl.Good Luck
I looked up Sasha's Blend I had never heard of it. Sounds like great stuff! I really hope Ollie won't have problems with his hips, etc, as he ages, he has the best chance not to with such a good mum! I have had Hallie on Cosequin (glucosamine and chondroitin) for 10 years and also fish oil for the last 2-3.
I agree Papbouv, I take ACV everyday myself. I gave Hallie some once but it upsets her tummy, she has such a sensitive tummy anyway. I started taking it with my stomach problems on the suggestion of my accupuncturist guy, my step mother then started taking it too for her bad knees. It didn't bother my bad stomach at all but my step mother, who has an iron stomach, had burning from it so bad she drove herself to the ER thinking she was having a heart attack. Go figure! But I do agree it's supposed to be really good thing to take. I put it in my daily smoothie thingie.
Prayers coming for both of you from Arizona and your Alaska buddies.
In support of Rimadyl.......My late doxie Harry had a ruptured disk in his neck. His vet said it could be controlled with medication...Rimadyl...so surgery was not needed. Harry was 15 years old at the time, and he had a pain free two years till he died at the age of 17. I have used Rimadyl for other aches and pains on the six doxies who have graced my life, and I have gotten nothing but good results from it.
DeeDee - please let us know how the dr visit goes today.... :comfort:
Thanks Patty I wish this were our problem now, this one has been resolved we're on to a whole new bigger scarier one. There is a post below about her going blind 2 weeks or so ago we're flying her to Iowa this Saturday.
Thanks Barb I just took her out for morning pee and poop collection thankfully she is amazingly easy to get pee from all I had was a taller container and she just squats and pees with this thing propping her up. Her poops are very mucousy. They will do bloodwork today and I think they said the results will be back within 24 hours.
DeeDee - just noticed that you said you were flying...... is your stepmom still going with you? I hope so !! I am glad that you aren't driving that long way, but  that you aren't making the trip alone (human alone, I mean )
Hi Auntie Barb
Yes we got talked into flying. Not sure how that happened. But 5.5 hours will be much better than 27hrs 7 min in a car. And yes my wonderful stepmother is going with us.
We just got home from the vet, got her health certificate and they took blood, and I brought the pees and poops. So will get results tomorrow morning. The vet said he has heard also that the sooner they can be treated the better, so doesn't understand either how we could possibly have to wait for so long. Still driving me insane. He also said he has one client who has three dogs of different breeds, all with SARDs. With it being such a rare thing that points to something environmental I'd think. I also think if I were that person I'd swear to never have dogs again. Wow.
Hallie was a perfect girl at the vets she was so scared but she never puts up any kind of fuss. She always makes me so proud of her. I am very grateful for this chance to get her sight back am praying hard it will work and stick!
Good luck with both issues. Your in the pipe now as Nick calls it from Alien. Go girlies...............

More Rays & Hugs hope all goes well.
