Guinness who's gonna be 16 in thwee weeks! who's going to be 16 in three weeks, now won't eat his dinner when served. :feedme: Since he is surrounded by three other starving dachshunds who'll eat anything not running fast, he is fed in my bedroom, often up on my bed.
He decided that dinner should be later. So I put his bowl away after 15 minutes, and he was served again the next day. This did not sit well with little Lord Studley, who now waits UNTIL I am sound asleep to begin yapping - in my ear. (Full disclosure: he also now yaps if his water bowl is empty.) :runaway:
He seems to have missed the sign I saw some time ago in a catalogue. Perhaps I should needlepoint it:
Dogs have owners, :dump:
Cats have staff.
This is the scullery maid going back to the sink.
Auntie Karen :verdict:
Just be happy he is still eating at that age sounds like he has trained you well better pratice your bowing to his Highness.
Sadly they get that way when they get older!! Wacky Zack likes to whine at various times and it is a challenge to figure out what he is fussing over. If he is on the bed, he might want to get on the floor, or might want to get water or maybe he actually has to go potty. Sister has belly band on him, so that is not usually a problem but if it gets really wet that also gets him whining!!
Merions' dogs all went through picky eater periods. Zeke right up to the end would usually still be tempted by fresh raspberries!! Zack now for a while would eat if you gave him several raspberries in the bowl, but sometimes they needed to be hand fed. sometimes Wacky wants the food put on the blanket and not in the bowl.
My Twinkie angel(Zacks granny) never hit that spell. Of course once we moved here, I would put her food down, and as an only dog, I would leave it and eventually she would go back and eat it. So I never had to deal with that like my sister has had with hers. When I visit her though it sometimes means trying to tempt a fussy senior!!
LOL - I think he has now earned The Staff level !!!!
My Bran, who will be 15 next month is the same way. Very finicky.....but mom hand feeds her and when she doesn't eat much, will try again in a bit. I figure at her age, when she gets hungry, I need to feed her :dontknow:  (She has me trained !!!!)
My boys weren't the least bit finicky when it came to eating, but leave the stainless water pan empty for even a minute and Sam would bank it against the wall until I came to fill it. Now my cats, yes cats are notoriously finicky, I know, but they weren't as bad as some I've seen, case in point Whitey my Siamese mix would turn her nose up at shrimp or herring in cream sauce and sit by my grandmother's purse because there was a doggy bag with baked cod in it. Gizmo, my black short hair would inhale his meals then push his pseudo siblings away from their dishes because he was still hungry and he was only 4 months old at the time. Danni, my baby eyes the cat food but it's on a table that she can't reach and though she doesn't beg per se she does sit with her paws on your lap if you have anything that looks the least bit like food.
I think I'm in trouble. Winston already acts this way and he's only FOUR! :thinik:
We used to laugh at Wacky Zack. He was extremely finicky about what food he would eat(dog or people versions) however get him near non edibles, washclothes, belts, shoes, I think even a TV remote, basically any non edible things and boy those were perfect things to eat!!
