It's been quite a long time since I have posted...a lot going on in my life. I'm sure everyone else has had "issues" in the past couple of years, too. Still living in Colorado with Schnitzel (now 13), Strudel (now 12) and Kleine (now 15). We lost our adopted Luther to a blood clot in his heart in 2009 and still trying to get over it. Last year we rescued two little boys from Dachshund rescue in Boulder, CO (yes - a house of 5 Doxies!). They were named Slinky and Boomer, so we kept those names. Slinky is 3 and Boomer is 5 and they keep the old girls going. We felt Luther would have wanted us to give these boys a home. They are two red smoothies. John, my husband, lost his job two years ago January and has not worked since, so he is home with the boys and girls. I am still manager of a real estate office in Breckenridge. As I'm sure you all know, real estate is sketchy these days.
Schnitzel has developed a "shaking" or "trembling" condition and the vets just can't figure it out. She has had various tests and been on various meds and nothing has worked. She doesn't act like she is in pain, but the vets think she is, so we just started a course of Gabapentin. As of right now, she is still shaking. If anyone has any ideas, I would be grateful to hear from you. My email is Dachsville@gmail.com.
I hope everyone is as well as can be expected in these times. I wish you and your woobies a Happy New Year.
Eileen
Hi Eileen!
I should have read this first, that answers my question on ages! My gosh time FLIES and not in a good way, doesn't it! You have a great sounding crew of doxies for sure! I really hope they can figure Schnitzel out soon it is so hard to see them not right and not know what to do for them. Fingers crossed the gabapentin will work.
Sorry for the rough times, life is a hard road sometimes. We hope this is a better year for you all!
Eileen - it is great to see you here !!!! LOL - My family is also a five-pack now....know as the Fab Fivey's. Look forward to catching up with you !
Hello Eileen! Wow! It HAS been a long time! I'm so glad you popped in. I remember your weewots. So sorry to hear about Luther. I hope the vets finds out the reason why Schnitzel is shaking. Is there such a thing as canine Parkinsons? Your little boys sound like they keep things lively. I can't believe Klene is 15! I remember lots of Kleine stories.
Well, we lost Dolly about 4 years ago and our Madison (Madderoo) about 4 months ago. We adopted then 10 year old Bonnie two years ago. Now at 12, she is finally comfortable with us-still some fear issues with Mark and other things around the house. She loves to be silly and to flop for a belly rub. She prefers her bed to ours and actually LIKES to be in the ex-pen when we must pen her up. Otherwise, she has run of the house and usually doesn't move from her snuggle position (think burrito) from 7:30 to 1:20 (when I get home for lunch. She is a very good girl, though very alpha and does very well as an only dog.
Sorry about your hubby's job. We've escaped that thus far as both of us are working but we still live simply because 1) we want to and 2) It's garsh darn expensive to live in San Luis Obispo!.
Tell us more about your crew!
Sandi
Hi Eileen,
Both of my boys are at the Bride, but I have a sweet little Pinneranian girl named Danni, who is the love of my life. Sam used to shiver and tremble on occasion and at times it got really bad, but was just for a brief period. However, once he started to shake and shiver for over an hour, luckily he had a vet appointment that day. He shivered the entire time we were at the vet and even the Dr didn't know what to make of it. Then on the way home I stopped at the pet store to pick up something and no sooner had we gotten out of the car the shaking stopped and he never did it again. Danni shivers but only when she sees me eating something she wants to try. So I have no clue what to tell you, wish I did because it's just plain scary.
Hey, Dee Dee...how old is Hallie now?? I remember all the cute stories about her!
PS Schnitzel has been on three doses of the gabapentin and maybe a slight inprovement in the shaking....we'll see (and hope).
Eileen
Hi Barb! So a house of 5 Doxies is just a hoot, isn't it!!! Eileen
Hi Sandi. So sorry for your losses. If we could just keep them forever. I have heard where you live is just beautiful, but that California (especially the coast) is expensive!! Thanks for writing back. Eileen
Awww..sorry for your losses. I only wish Schnitzel's shaking was due to cold or food - those things could be remedied. Eileen
Hi there Eileen, we are sorry to hear about Schnitzel and hope you find the root cause soon, it is great to hear from you though. It has been a long time. So sad you lost Luther, he would be proud of your decision to rescue the boys, you must have your hands full with the girls and new boys, it would be lovely to see some piccies sometime.
Love to you all and healing, sunny Spanish rays from us,
Andrea & Miguel, Red and Islay.
That is great you are seeing some improvement with the gabapentin! Hopefully it is a minor thing going on and will pass and the gabapentin will get her through it easier. It's always so frustrating when you don't know what is going on with them.
Hallie is ten. Freaks me out completely. I figure my only choice is to go with her when the time comes we're both going to sit out on the ice flows and shoot rubber bands at the polar bears.
I will post some pictures as soon as I figure out all the features of this new little HP Mini Netbook 110. I'm still getting it set up. It is pretty cool - only 10.2 inches! Thanks for writing.
Does Hallie still that beautiful coat? Kleine's is kind of raggety now at 15-plus. Whenever she sees me with the brush, she runs under the dining room table. Still fiesty as all get out! She is hysterical when she sleeps. With no teeth, her tongue hangs out of one side of her mouth. I often go over when she is sleeping to make sure she's still breathing :xfinger:
Ohhhh boy they do get older fast don't they. Hard to believe Kleine is 15. Sounds like she is still spunky though that is great! Hallie doesn't have quite as much coat as she once did but she still has plenty. Getting pretty gray in the face though! Ack! Here are a few recent ones of her.
Can't wait to see your pics of the kids!!! Hope Schnitzel is doing better yet on the gabapentin.
OMG she is as gorgeous as ever!!! That photo of her looking up at the sky~ oh my! You are such a wonderful photographer. You can see my two new boys in the photo I just added by my user name. Slinky is the one with the sweater on looking at the camera (took it with my phone camera so not the best...). Boomer is stretched out beside him. They were just lounging by the fireplace. Schnitzel is still shaking, but I believe not as intensely. I was hoping for more with the Gabapentin.....
