Title: Need Baby Shower ideas
Post by: Dee Dee and Hallie on December 28, 2010, 09:48:12 PM
I am in charge of games for a baby shower, all the ones I can find online are ones everyone does. I am looking for games that wouldn't be too embarrassing or messy for everyone (like bobbing for pacifiers) but different from the same old same old. I am a total newbie at baby shower ideas, anyone have any good unusual games? So far we have the clothes pin on everyone and whoever catches you saying "baby" gets your pin, and putting a bowl on their lap and one on their head, cotton balls in the bowl on the lap, blindfold them and they have to put as many cotton balls from the lap bowl into the head bowl with a spoon. And giving everyone a paper napkin and they have to put it behind their backs and tear it into a baby sweater shape, then Mom votes on her favorite. Any others?I don't think guess the circumference of Mom's belly would go over too well, she hates the weight she's gained!

Thanks Barb I was wondering how many games would be appropriate. I'd love to find a horse themed one this is my cousin I ride with and has all of the beautiful horses, she's a horse nut too.

How Many Baby Items Can You Name:
(Materials- pad of paper and pen for each woman). Have each woman write down as many baby products as they can name (bottle, blanket, pacifier, etc) within 5 minutes. Sure it is easy at the beginning, but towards the last few minutes, the women will start racking their brains for more :) Give a prize to the woman who gets the most baby products named!

Baby Shower Memory Game

Here is the classic and very popular baby shower memory game. It is a very simple to play, yet also fun.  Place baby items in a large box or tray and cover with a baby blanket on top for when you first bring it out to show the guests.  Choose both small and large items, including a good variety.

Here are some examples:

- diaper pins
- teething ring
- rattle
- bottle
- nipples
- pacifier
- bib
- baby washcloth
- hooded towel
- nursing pads
- stuffed animal
- night light
- extra bulbs
- diapers
- travel pack of wipes
- diaper rash cream
- teething gel
- nail clippers
- Q-tip
- thermometer
- travel size baby powder
- travel size baby shampoo
- travel size baby lotion
- parenting book
- disposable camera
- small photo album

1.  Provide at least 20 items and arrange them so each one can be clearly seen.

2.  Gather your guests into a large circle.

3.  Give each person a piece of paper, pencil, and something hard to write on such as a pad or book.

4.  Place the box or tray in the center of the room where everyone has a clear view.

5.  Allow the participants to look over the box for two minutes. They are not allowed to make any notes.

6.  When time is up, cover with a baby blanket and have everyone write down as many items as he or she can remember.  Allow as much time as you wish for your guests to complete their lists.

***This can also be a hostess gift to the mom to be (all the items)!

Candy in a Bottle GameFree baby shower games for your party!

Fill a new baby bottle with gummy bears, jelly beans, or another colorful candy.

Be sure to count the pieces as you fill the bottle.

Have the guests guess the number of pieces. Whoever is closest wins.

After the game is over, give the bottle to the new mother.

Baby Shower Names Game

MATERIALS: paper, pensils, magazine or something hard to write on.

Announce a category of names with a particular ending such as "en", "y", "er", "ie", "a", "ine/een/ene".

Set the timer for two minutes for each name ending. Each guest should write down as many names as they can think of in that time.

You may give prizes out for each category or for the total cumulative score.

Even if you don't find a game that is horse related - you can decorate horsey !

This is all GREAT thanks so much! Good ideas here I will run them all past Gwyns sister and we'll make a decisioin. That was a big help.

I just thought of another one, Hallie loves everyone and loves to be petted, etc, but she is a momma's girl and will usually stick right by me. There will be about 75 people there, and we're booking a big room. I thought we could get them all in a circle and Hallie and I in the middle and the first person to get Hallie to come close enough to them to touch her (with no food) will get the prize. Or better yet since she might go around the room vaccuuming and mosey by someone who could touch her, maybe they would have to put a baby hat on her or something without restraining her that way she'd have to stay with them on her own accord long enough.

I'll also be bringing her stroller so there should be some kind of baby game we could do with that, I'd say diapering the doxie but would be afraid someone would tweak her wrong and hurt her.  :thinik:

YIPES - 75 people !!!  LOL - that is a cute Hallie game !   I would hold it to maybe 2 games in addition to the don't say Baby game - it will take a LONG time to open prezzies !

One game is to guess the baby food. You take jars of baby food. FIRST, take a marker and put a number on the lid and write down the number and what the baby food is on a paper that you keep somewhere. This is your answer sheet. Once that is done, take the labels off the baby food. Then, have the guests try to guess what the jars of baby food are (without opening them!). It is one of the hardest games I've played and brought back so many memories. Sweet potatoes and carrots look a lot alike! Then you throw in a just a couple of those mixed meals that have meat in them to make it tough. Pick out about 8-10 foods.
I love Roberta's idea for decorating! That would be fun.

That is a good point Barb it's going to take 75 people a lot longer to play games than 20! I just learned that children are invited too so I won't do the call Hallie to you game too many energetic little hands and feet that could land on the delicate wiener!  But I'll come up with something Hallie game wise!

That's a great idea too Teresa! Going on the list for sure! (makes me gag to think about it LOL I can see it being a funny game!) I like Roberta's decorating idea too I sent the suggestion to the ones in charge of decorating!  :thumb:
