Title: What do you mean I can't play with the bird?
Post by: Jacqueline on November 16, 2005, 10:36:11 PM
  Taffy says she thinks that Caesar is being really stuff about not wanting to play with her.   After all, she thinks he is such an interesting fellow, and soooooo nice to look at.  Much more so than the other four birds, who are just boring, and sometimes noisy.

Caesar, my Senegal, says......SCRAM!!  If I won't play with Mom, what makes you think I want to play with you?  I'm afraid he has never been a very sociable bird, and that attitude is not likely to change, no matter how much of a sweetheart she is.

Yes, I know that doxies are hunters....but she doesn't seem to realize that birds are on the hunted list.  I suggested she at least bark at the humongous flock of starlings that raided our bird feeders, and she just shrugged.  On one of our walks, she and another starling stood together on the ground about 5 feet from each other, just looking at each other.  She was raised in a home with birds before I got her...apparently right from birth.

We won't leave the two of them out together without close supervision, tho.  Caesar sometimes gets a real attitude...lol....he came after my bare foot one day when I didn't come up with a peanut for him fast enough.  And when I play with him, and he gets tired of it, he throws the toys off the back of the cage to prove he's had enough.  He's my little tough guy.  He's about 20 years old.  And very stern with us, lol.  Soooo,....I think she is barking up the wrong playmate.

My dog Manny is the same way when I take him to my sister's house. My sister has a cockatiel and the whole time we're there he sits there and cries at the bird in the cage.

I've never had a bird, but I have heard they are very intelligent and entertaining (I have known some people who had cockatiels).  My husband likes birds and will usually go talk with them when we see them at Petsmart - they usually respond to whatever he is saying to them.  It's cute when they turn their heads sideways and look like they are thinking really hard about what you're saying.

Enjoyed your story.  Poor Taffy!

My sister-in-law has a bird and I call it the "dachsie sitter".  When we go to there house Buelah plants herself in front of the cage and leaves her spot only to eat and do her business outside.

Buelah here.  Last time mama took us to Auntie Dotties house she put really soft pillow for me on the floor by the birdy cage.  Just for ME.  She says dat if I'm gonna sit there all day watching Petrie the birdy I might as well be comfy.  She even brings me my treats der!  I LOVE my Auntie Dottie!
Title: Skittles, our half nakkid quaker, woke us up this morning

:verdict:   Apparently she thought that we were getting too much sleep lately, so she started ringing her bell.  Of course, I'm the dummy that gave her the nice clear loud bell to amuse herself with....and she started ringing it, and got Taffy all wound up.  Taffy started barking like crazy at Skittles the alarm clock.  I woke up, staggered around, got my slippers on - looked at the clock and told them they were all nuts.  I met my hubby coming out of the bathroom, who asked if she needed out.

Well....now that Skittles has her up, probably.  He graciously took her out, and I went back to bed.  When he brought her in, she popped up with me, and Skittles, herein known as "you feathered fiend" started laughing.  Yep, laughing....no two ways about it.  She laughed so much she had me laughing.

I must be nuts, all these birds, and not one a tiny little SILENT finch. :idiot:
