This weekend a girlfriend of mine told me about this family who has a new puppy (non-doxie). The problem is, this puppy is only about 10 weeks old but these people keep it outside the whole time they are not home with very little shelter. We've been having Noah-like rain this whole weekend and while we don't know what went on today or yesterday, it was reported that the puppy was in a very flimsy pen on Friday and that my friend was over there visiting another friend next door and the puppy had broken out of its enclosure. My friend even went to this person's door and told them that she was concerned about the puppy.
Yesterday she told me of this whole sad story. And she was determined not to make that puppy suffer. This is where the "covert" part of this story comes in.
Angie (name has been changed to protect the guilty) called me around 6:30 and said she wanted to go check on the puppy but didn't want to go alone. She had tried to call his people all day and no answer It has poured buckets today. She declared that if she found the puppy outside that she would take it. There is a good chance that a coyote could get it or it could die of sickness due to the weather. Well, I'm not up for breaking the law but I did agree to go with her. Ha! Nothing exciting happens around here so I figured, why not? I didn't think she would TRULY take the dog but I had called my friend, Callie, (again name has been changed) just for advice. I suggested that if the dog was out in the weather and no one was home that we call Animal Control.
Well, she picked me up and we took a drive out to the country where this house is. GOOD NEWS!!! Lights were on and no sign of puppy. (Whew). Aren't you guys glad you don't have to bail me out of the pokey?
I just can't believe that someone would bring home a young puppy and just leave it outside most of the time. I don't get it!!! Stuff like this makes me sick and MOST people would just tsk tsk about it (me, probably if I was operating on my own). Not Angie! She does AND says exactly what's on her mind and I admire her for that. I did have my wallet on me and was ready for my one call from a jail cell.
:headbang: Good on ya, there, but I must remind you of the Speedone family motto:
"No Bail Money."
Just sayin' is all. :thumb:
Most likely, if you did a successful covert mission and puppy came up missing, the owners wouldn't call animal control or the police.
I say make animal control aware that there is a potentially miss-treated animal there and have them make a house call.
Happens all the time can't expect Animal Control to do much some area s have good Animal Control some do not hope the pup is inside where it belongs. My sister has called Animal Control 3 times have a yellow Lab mix next door to her tied out on a cable, one little pan of water even in summer NO shelter gets a little food once aday. There was two dogs one tied to a Gas Meter it disapeared ? the othe barks & howls because it is cold we have not had rain so at least it is not wet.One was jumping the fence gettiing in my sisters back yard it tore down the squirel feeder looking for food her recently departed husband had put up in a tree.My sister did tell them if the dog hurt her Boston Terrier( husbands dog) she would shoot the dog so they did move it to where it cannot jump in her yard any more. I always thought you had to provide shelter ,food & water guess not in Tulsa OK.
It totally burns me up..... Bless you for going on the "covert mission". Keep us posted on any new info.
A long, long time ago, me and a roommate did a "covert mission" to save a kitten. These people in our apartment complex owned it, but kept giving it to their (large) dog to chew on, like it was a squeaky toy. It made us both sick. They left it outside all the time, so one night we picked it up, took it home and then took it to work the next day and found her a new home with a family that would take better care of it. We spent the night in our apartment that night with the blinds closed and the lights off, worried they would come by looking for her. It wasn't right, legally, but I've never regretted saving that poor little baby.
