Poor Miss Hilde has hives and it's all my fault. The fleas have been so bad this year and the Frontline just seem to just quit working. So I went out to Pets Supply Plus last Monday and got an over the counter flea repellent they reccommended and put it on her. In the morning, my poor baby has hives all down her back, and on her part of her belly. I washed her right away and started her on children's benedryl. By Saturday they still hadn't gone, so I called my vet and he upped her benedryl, told me to wash her again, I did, and if they don't go away in a couple of more days to bring her in. She is so itchy it really hurts me to see her so. All because I am a bad mama!!! Please send some healing rays for my baby. She didn't do anything wrong--it's her mean ole mom!!!

Awwww Darcel - don't be so hard on yourself...... Sending Baby Girl rayz that they go away quickly !!!!
If it makes you feel any better Darcel I am in the bad mamma club today too on two counts!! I was giving Ivy such a telling off for all the wee's in the kitchen that she's been doing - I thought maybe the fireworks had put her off going outside to wee and wanted to make sure she knew it wasn't on. Well, I felt bad and thought I had better get her checked out at the vet's office this morning and it turns out that she has a UTI and there was a lot of protein in her wee and that it was probably very stingy to wee and that's probably why she was only weeing a little at a time but doing it lots - poor baby. She has antibiotics now and we will go back on Friday to check that the protein and pH of her wee have resolved a bit. Well the second count of dog abuse was sitting waiting in the waiting room with both pups on my knee getting lots of love from everyone that met them. When it was our time to go and see the vet I kept a hold of Ivy and let Tris jump down from my knee...........only he really isn't that agile any more and he jumped right onto the floor landing on his chin. Poor little boy, I felt like a very bad mum for letting him hop down onto a hard floor though he does it all day long at home onto the carpet. I fully expect the RSPCA to come to collect them both at any time :doah:

You aren't a bad mama!! Try giving her an oatmeal bath in some lukewarm water. Not too hot, not too cold. Get an old sock, fill it full of instant oats and boil them in a pan until they are cooked. Then let it cool off, stick her in the tub and gently stroke her fur with the oatmeal filled sock. It doesn't help for a really long time, but it does give them some relief for a little bit. Hope she feels better soon. Hives are NO fun!!
If you are a bad Mama, the sky is green! I'm sure we all have even worse stories of things we have accidentally done to our children, I know I do. :) Poor Hilde I can imagine how hard it is to see her itching but she'll be better soon! The oatmeal bath that Porky's Mom suggests really helped Hallie out this summer when her allergies were flared up, it's worth a try. Let us know how she does we're sending non-itchy rays.
Thanks guys, you're the best. I'll definetley try the oatmeal. Anything to help her with the itchies.

No, you're not. You were trying to help the little booger.
But if ya have a flea infestation read: http://www.wienerwritings.com/forum/index.php?topic=1898.msg13312#msg13312
Are you feeling better now Miss Hilde? Your mommy isn't bad, not at all. She was just trying to help but you must be allergic to that new flea stuff. RAYS to you, sweetheart.
Guess I am not having a very good day either!!
I read the first part of the post about oatmeal bath and immediately saw an image of a doxie in a bathtub bobbing for oatmeal!! Not that our babies are chow hounds!!!

She does seem better today. Her hives don't seem as big as they were and she seems to be less itchy. The vet said to keep up the benedryl and to keep the fleas off right now with a flea comb. I try to catch them, but the little buggers are fast. Little by little I'm getting them. I now have the knack to know just how much to squeeze them. Ha! Thanks for all the good advice and rays for my baby.

Willy is allergic to anything green on the planet earth. I find that benedryl and a good powdering with Gold Bond Medicated Powder really helps a lot. I usually give him something to work on after I have powdered him, like giving him one of his frozen pup-scicles, that takes his mind off the itchies and gives the powder a chance to calm those itchies. Best of luck to your baby girl.
It's good to know she's feeling a little better today Darcel, you're a lovely mummy and Hilde is very lucky to have you xxxxxx
