Edwin Fry's Poodle, Buddy Tough, Euthanized After 73-Year-Old Tries To Free Him From Pound.
HYDRO, Okla. â€" An elderly Oklahoma man landed himself in jail after using bolt cutters to break his prized pooch from the pound.
Instead of paying a $100 fine for not having his poodle on a leash, 73-year-old Edwin Fry of Hydro decided to bust Buddy Tough out. Authorities say Fry drove his lawnmower to the city pound Oct. 13 and broke into the cage with bolt cutters. The pair were intercepted by police.
Officer Chris Chancellor told The Oklahoman newspaper that police had received numerous complaints about Buddy Tough, who had been in the pound before. He says Fry had been told he could retrieve the dog and sort out the fine in court.
Fry spent several days in jail and faces a municipal charge of allowing an animal to run at-large. Buddy Tough was euthanized while Fry was in jail.

I feel for the poor dog. He was the one killed because of a bad owner. RIP Buddy Tough.

OMG! What can you even say to that...WHY would they euthanize the dog? How "bad" could a poodle be to deserve that! None of it was his fault. Who knows the mans situation maybe he had dementia or didn't have the money or whatever but to kill the dog? :cussing: Did it not occur to them to call poodle rescue?
You have to realize this happened in OK the most backward state there is lived here most of my life they are always doing dumb stuff like this.
There is also a cultural difference in parts of the midwest; dogs are not so much pets as farm animals, and if a coyote eats the dog, that's part of life. There is some truth to that. But Yorkshire Terriers should not be let out in the back yard in the Santa Monica Mountains by celebrities like Sharon Osbourne for coyotes to snack on. So it is also a matter of geography.
It's hard to say what kind of shape Buddy Tough was in - the euthanasia may have been justified. But the way this whole thing was handled was simply wrong. If the owner is 73 and driving around on his lawn mower, the cops should have cut him some slack. And he should have been consulted about Buddy's condition.
