Title: Calming Aid Reactions?
Post by: MindyKay on October 04, 2010, 02:00:08 PM
I bought PetCo's version of a calming aid - the kind you squeeze onto your finger and let your pupper lick it off.  I thought I was doing a good thing for Ozzy, especially when I have to leave for work.  Last Saturday, Ozzy had an appointment to get his bordatella booster.  1/2 hour before the appointment, I gave him some, like the instructions said.  At the vet, he turned into a wild man, peeing all over the place.  He was panting, and his eyes were "brighter" than normal.  I've stopped giving it to him.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Poor Ozzy! I have never used anything like that so can't speak from experience but that had to be so scary for you. Glad he is ok.

We used several versions of calming aids for Maddie and NOTHING works.  She even rose above doggy tranquilizers and didn't blink when we gave her 2 melatonin tablets!  If Madderoo wanted to be UP, she was UP....despite what we tried.

Miss Hilde is afraid of everything.  She even barks at noises from the TV.  I've tried benedryl, rescue remedy, and even something from the vet's.  Nothing worked on her.  In fact the benedry had the opposite effect.  Turned into a bigger bundle of wild weenieness.  So I try to calm her with words and loving when I'm there.  Hope you have better luck!
